Taylor Townsend Is Gearing Up for Her Ninth French Open Campaign

Townsend’s return to the red clay comes after a challenging stretch. After suffering a mild concussion during a doubles quarterfinal at the Miami Open earlier this year, the 29-year-old was sidelined for nearly two months.

During her recovery, she took time away from the tour to heal and reconnect with her son. Now back in form and eyeing a strong run at Roland Garros, which will kick off from May 25, Townsend is facing the emotional weight of leaving her son behind once again.

Townsend shared a glimpse into that raw, tender moment as she documented her farewell to Adyn on Instagram. In the first story, she was seen writing a handwritten message on a whiteboard at home, captioning it: “Writing one last note before I go.”

That note read: “ADYN, I am so proud of you. These last two months with you has been so fullfiling and incredible. Always remember… No matter how faraway I am, I am Always with you! I love you to the moon, Stars, and above Love, Mommy.” Townsend added an emotional caption to the post: “Brbbb going to cry again.”

In a heartwarming clip that followed, she captured a scene of her and Adyn lying in bed. The four-year-old adorably gushed: “I like your beautiful hair, your beautiful lips, your beautiful cheeks, your beautiful hair, your beautiful nose, your beautiful eyelashes, your beautiful nails. You’re so beautiful,” before the two exchanged a sweet “I love you.” She jokingly captioned the clip: “Men.. take a page out of ajs book.”

Townsend then posted another story that laid bare her struggle to leave, writing: “Now yall see why I be sad to leave him.. I won’t find a better hype man.” The series of Instagram Stories wrapped with a final update as she showed herself en route to France with a send-off: “And we are off…”

Taylor Townsend Reflected on How Becoming a Mother Shifted Her Mindset

At the 2023 US Open, Taylor Townsend shared how motherhood has reshaped her perspective. In a press conference, she joked that being a mom can make you feel like pulling your hair out and admitted she’s learned to let go of the need to control everything.

“I think like being a parent makes you want to pull your hair out (laughter). I think it’s more so, like, learning and understanding when to push. Basically, to understand that most of the time, like, you want to be in control but you’re not in control, so you can control what you can, and what you can’t you got to let go,” Townsend said.
