Cowboys Star Micah Parsons Sends 5-Word Message After Intense Workout With Myles Garrett

Being a gym rat is just a part of everyday life for an NFL player. Micah Parsons and Myles Garrett just happen to be a little more intense.

Micah Parsons’ contract negotiations just keep dragging on. The Dallas Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones, will have to give his all-world linebacker a boatload of money. In the meantime, Parsons is keeping himself busy with insane workouts.

NFL off-seasons are no longer when players work extra jobs as police officers or plumbers. They do their commercials and endorsement deals while participating in intense workouts. Even when they aren’t collecting paychecks from their team, they are working out as if being a professional football player is a year-round job.

Micah Parsons and Myles Garrett Are Monsters in the Gym

Parson shared an Instagram of him working out with fellow defensive freak of nature, Cleveland DE, Myles Garrett.

“Locked in with OG now,” wrote Parsons via an Instagram story.

Speaking of insane workouts, check out something Garrett posted on Instagram. His workout looks like it would destroy a regular human being.

The culture surrounding the NFL offseason has drastically evolved over the last 50 years. Through the early 90s, many players showed up to training camp out of shape. Most players would heal up, take vacations, reconnect with family, or develop other business interests.

As recently as the 1970s and 80s, players could be photographed smoking cigarettes in locker rooms, and tales of players playing with vicious hangovers were common.

Training camp was used to get players back in shape. Before free agency, player movement was far more limited, and offensive and defensive schemes were more simplified and consistent year over year. It was a wildly different world with far different circumstances and expectations.

Today, superstars fine-tune their bodies and get into phenomenal shape in the offseason. What was once sort of an anomaly is now an expectation. Depending on the language of their contract, players who don’t show up to camps in tip-top shape could be fined.

With the rise of the nonstop news cycle, players found themselves being reported on like never before. And with the nature of social media, the environment is even more intense. They are almost expected to show off their workouts.

Personal trainers, personal chefs, and dietitians are on the payroll of the league’s most prominent and dedicated players. Superstars are now expected to be demons in the gym, lest they risk the harsh criticism of fans who may accuse them of not working hard enough.

It’s not just about improving; it’s also about recovery and maintenance. Modern professional athletes are constantly covered and under intense scrutiny. So it stands to reason that superstars like Parsons and Garrett would post workout selfies and videos like influencers.
