The Giants traded up in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft to select Dart with the 25th overall pick. Despite the high investment, Dart is not expected to start immediately. Head coach Brian Daboll confirmed that Wilson, signed on a one-year deal, will open the season as the starter. Jameis Winston, who also joined via free agency on a two-year contract, adds further experience to the quarterback room.

General managerÍŹ JoÍŹe SchÍŹoen ÍŹechoedÍŹ Daboll’s stance and providedÍŹ context on the team’s approach. “We’ve been throughÍŹ this, ÍŹwe went ÍŹthrough ÍŹit with JÍŹosh Allen,” Schoen ÍŹsaid,ÍŹ referring ÍŹto his timeÍŹ withÍŹ the BÍŹuffalo Bills. He explained that young quarterbacks need time to adjust to complex NFL offenses and that Dart will benefit from sitting behind seasoned pros.

“The ability for him to learn and sit behind two consummate pros already will be beneficial for him,” Schoen added.

While Dart’s debut may not come in September, ÍŹthe ÍŹ21ÍŹ-year-old is already making an impression on teammates and coaches alike. DaÍŹbÍŹoll expressed his satisfaction with Dart’sÍŹ preparation during rookie minicamp,ÍŹ noting his readiness and strong work ethic.

Still, the pressure is high in New York. The Giants are coming off a 3-14 season, and both Daboll and Schoen are facing scrutiny. The franchise hopes to rebound strongly in 2025, with a draft class that includes standout defensive end Abdul Carter and versatile running back Cam Skattebo, alongside Dart.

For now, Dart’s ÍŹjob is to learnÍŹ and grow. The meeting with MannÍŹing, who led the Giants toÍŹ two Super Bowl victories and, like ÍŹDart, ÍŹcame from ÍŹOle Miss, offered not justÍŹ a moment of humor, but also a glimpse at ÍŹwhatÍŹ the future could ÍŹhold.
