While the Browns came up short in Week 14 to the Ravens, the offense played a fantastic game. The 47-42 Monday Night Football contest had it all, including a resilient Browns quarterback. Baker Mayfield has been getting better each week, and the more he improves, the farther this team can go.
The running game continues to churn, but while the Giants have played a rough season, the rushing defense has been rock solid. Mayfield may be forced to beat the Giants with his arm. But if the Browns want their first postseason victory since 1994, that shouldn’t be a lot to ask of their franchise QB. There will be times he needs to carry the club.
Cleveland’s defense has been good this season, and Myles Garrett continues to wreak havoc in offensive backfields. The Browns are giving up 28.7 points per game, which wouldn’t necessarily be an issue if Daniel Jones was starting. However, the Giants made the smart decision to start Colt McCoy over Jones this week, and things should get interesting.

The Giants defense is more impressive than Cleveland, averaging almost 20 yards and six points less per game. It took a bit, but head coach Joe Judge has this defense playing well. They gave Seahawks QB Russell Wilson fits in their Week 13 matchup and featured Colt McCoy under center. Nothing was too impressive in the win, but things seemed to flow a bit better offensively than in Week 14 with Jones.
If the Giants defense can slow down Cleveland’s ground attack and force Baker Mayfield to make mistakes, can the offense score enough points to win the game? This is where things start to look shaky for the Giants. They’ve scored just 18.3 points per game this season. They might be able to slow the Browns down, but the Browns have been held to less than 20 points in just four games so far.
Even if the Giants can stop the Browns rushing attack, Mayfield has progressed each week and is making better decisions with each start. Besides the interception against the Ravens in Week 14, Mayfield moved the ball up and down the field at will. This Cleveland team is fun to watch and should hold on to the top wild card spot with a win in this game. If it’s anything like the Monday Night Football contest between the Browns and the Ravens, football fans are in for a real treat.
