Former Jets CB Gets Brutally Honest About How New York Failed To Cultivate a Winning Environment

The New York Jets have not been able to find ways to be successful on the field and one former player discussed how it starts before gameday.

The New York Jets have not been able to cultivate a winning environment. The team has not made the postseason since 2010, tied for the longest active playoff drought among American professional teams with the Buffalo Sabres. The ownership situation with Woody Johnson has not allowed them to field a winning product, and they were ranked last in the league in the NFL Players’ Poll for ownership.

There needs to be a change in terms of how things are run at the top of the organization, and winning could cure all, as the team has a new regime with coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey. But there is a reason for the constant changes in the front office.

Former New York Jets Player Discusses Lack of Winning Environment in the Franchise

The Jets have been one of the worst franchises in terms of winning, as the team constantly finds itself playing unimportant games after Thanksgiving on an annual basis for a myriad of reasons. Former Jets cornerback Blessuan Austin appeared on the ‘Washed Podcast‘ and discussed how the environment surrounding the team does not help players get into a winning mentality.

Austin was selected in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL draft by the Jets and spent two years with the team before playing with the Seattle Seahawks in 2021. He signed with the Denver Broncos in 2022 and Atlanta Falcons in 2023 but did not see any game action as he was released before the start of the regular season. However, being with multiple franchises allowed Austin to see how teams differ.

This has been one of the franchise’s issues for a while. In the 2025 NFLPA Report Cards, the Jets were the only team to get an F for ownership, while nothing outside of the strength and head coach could get higher than a C+.

The Jets have been one of the worst teams. In the previous nine seasons, they have gone 46-102 and never had a season with at least eight wins. People may attempt to dismiss this as a former player who did not find success in the league, having some sour grapes with a team, but the issues at One Jets Drive have been going on for years and need to be figured out.

With the latest staff rotation that saw Aaron Glenn take the reins in New Jersey, fans are hopeful that he’ll turn around the failing franchise.
