Ayan Broomfield Recalls Frances Tiafoe’s Influence During College Tennis Days

Broomfield and Tiafoe met through a mutual friend in 2015, early in their tennis journeys. Their bond gradually strengthened, and they went public with their relationship on Instagram in 2018. Though currently away from competitive play, Broomfield often travels with Tiafoe and is regularly present at his matches.

The Canadian made significant strides during her college tennis career. She started at Clemson University, playing at the top of the lineup in both singles and doubles. In 2016, she was named ACC Freshman of the Year and ITA Carolina Region Rookie of the Year and helped Clemson reach the second round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

In an interview on the Sunday Sports Club Podcast with Allison Kuch, Broomfield shared how her Clemson coach, Nancy Harris, collaborated with Tiafoe to enhance her training.

“Absolutely incredible for me when Frances came to my college matches. Because I had an amazing head coach at Clemson, her name was Nancy Harris. She knew that I really liked Frances’s feedback. So she would like work with Frances. They would be coaching me together on the court,” she said.

Broomfield further expressed her deep respect for Tiafoe’s expertise on the court, emphasizing that while she values others’ opinions off-court, she sees her boyfriend as an expert in tennis.

“Actually, I really value his input. I understand what you are saying and I think everything off-court I’m like I’d rather hear from anyone else. But on court I’m like okay this is an expert in his field. There’s a reason why he is at the top of his game. What do you see and how can you help me,” she added.

Although the Canadian has not officially retired from the sport, she has stepped away since the COVID-19 pandemic, citing stress and injuries. Nonetheless, Broomfield later gained massive success in content creation, brand promotions, and modeling.

Tiafoe and Broomfield Relished a Tennis Date After a Long Time

The short clip featured the couple rallying on court, with the Canadian noting it had been “a long time” since they last played together. She captioned the clip: “I love a tennis date night.”
