The New England Patriots made TreVeyon Henderson the 38th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Ohio State product was one of the highest-rated ball carriers in this year’s class, and he recently chose his number for the 2025 season.
Henderson’s decided on No. 32, and that caught the eye of Patriots legend Devin McCourty, who wore the same number.

Henderson was one of the best running backs in the 2025 class and came off a strong national championship season in 2024. Last year, he posted 1,016 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns while adding 27 catches, 284 yards, and one receiving score.
He did all that while splitting carries with fellow 2025 second-round pick Quinshon Judkins. The two formed a great pair for the Buckeyes, but PFSN’s Ian Cummings had Henderson one notch above.
Cummings wrote, “At 5’10”, 202 pounds, Henderson is a compact, low-to-the-ground slasher with the burst and speed to reach the second level in a blink. He’s physical and hyperactive, yet he’s a controlled pass-catcher and an ultra-reliable pass-protector with third-down value.”
Henderson joins a New England offense that finished No. 26 in PFSN’s Offense+ metric last season. Drake Maye is the future for the Patriots, but the unit finished 28th in EPA per play and 30th in points per drive in 2024.
Rhamondre Stevenson was the most productive skill player, totaling 801 yards and seven rushing touchdowns while adding 33 catches, 168 yards, and one receiving score. Antonio Gibson added 538 yards and one rushing touchdown, along with 23 receptions and 206 receiving yards.
New England’s running back room was the team’s most productive group last season, but Henderson can take things to another level.
The Ohio State product chose to wear No. 32, and McCourty couldn’t be happier to finally have a fast guy wearing his number.
McCourty responded, “Can’t wait to see real speed in that 32 jersey,” to a tweet by ESPN’s Patriots reporter Mike Reiss announcing Henderson’s choice to wear No. 32. The three-time Super Bowl champion wore the number for his entire 13-year career with the Patriots.

The team’s first-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, McCourty burst onto the scene in his rookie season, totaling 82 tackles, 17 pass breakups, and seven interceptions. He was named second-team All-Pro and finished second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.
McCourty started each of the 205 games he appeared in, totaling 971 tackles, 110 PBUs, 35 interceptions, and two pick-sixes. He retired after the 2021 season and has been a commentator for NBC’s NFL coverage ever since.
Astonishingly, McCourty was a Pro Bowler only twice in his career, but Henderson has the potential to take No. 32 to new heights.
