Who Are the Commanders’ Oldest Active Players? Top 10 Includes Bobby Wagner and Zach Ertz

Identifying the 10 oldest players on the Washington Commanders roster as the team looks to build on an impressive first year under Dan Quinn.

The Washington Commanders completely flipped the fortunes of their organization in 2024. After failing to record a winning season since 2016, Washington went 12-5 in 2024 and made its first Conference Championship game since its Super Bowl-winning 1991 season.

The Commanders will look to build on that success in 2025 and have already added some high-profile veterans to the roster to push for a Super Bowl. But with several veteran leaders returning for the 2025 season, who are the 10 oldest players on the Commanders’ roster?

The 10 Oldest Players on the Washington Commanders’ 2025 Roster

Josh Johnson

38-year-old Josh Johnson has spent his career bouncing around the league as a backup quarterback, as well as spending a year in each of the AFL and XFL. Drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2009, Johnson made his NFL debut when Jayden Daniels was just eight years old. He’ll now look to beat out Sam Hartman for the third-string quarterback role behind Daniels and Marcus Mariota in 2025.

Nick Bellore

A 14-year NFL veteran, Nick Bellore earned two Pro Bowl nods as a special teamer with the Seattle Seahawks, most recently in 2023. That led to a one-year deal with the Commanders in 2024, which was recently followed up by a two-year deal in free agency.

Tress Way

Another two-time Pro Bowler, Tress Way has spent his entire 11-year career with the Commanders. The punter’s one-year deal, though, is a steep drop-off from the four-year contract he signed in 2020, meaning he’ll need to perform if he wishes to stay with the team beyond 2025.

Bobby Wagner

Bobby Wagner not only earned a new deal with his 2024 performances but also a $2.5 million pay raise. Wagner’s 10 Pro Bowls in 13 years are evidence of his phenomenal influence on the field. The fact that he is still attending Pro Bowls in his mid-30s is why the team brought him back.

Zach Ertz

Zach Ertz joins Wagner as one of the two 34-year-olds on this list, at the time of writing. Ertz was a key contributor in the Commanders’ offense last season and caught fire during the playoffs. Like Wagner, Ertz was re-signed for the 2025 season and will be looking to add to his single Super Bowl win.

Tyler Ott

Veteran long-snapper Tyler Ott signed a three-year deal with the Commanders in 2024. The Harvard graduate has represented several teams since going undrafted in 2014 but could see out his career in Washington if all goes well.

Matt Gay

31-year-old Matt Gay signed with the Commanders after playing in 16 games for the Indianapolis Colts in 2024. Four different kickers attempted field goals for the Commanders last season, something the team will look to avoid in 2025.

Trent Scott

Trenton Scott is a depth piece for the team’s offensive line and moved further down the depth chart with the arrivals of Laremy Tunsil and Josh Conerly Jr. during the offseason. While not featuring heavily for the offense, Scott did have the rare opportunity to catch a touchdown pass in a 38-33 win over the Cincinnati Bengals last year.

Eddie Goldman

Nose tackle Eddie Goldman came out of retirement to play in all 17 games for the Atlanta Falcons in 2024, starting 10. The Washington Commanders added the former second-round pick on a one-year deal with minimal guarantees, meaning he’ll have some work to do to earn a roster spot in camp.

Kevon Seymour

Kevon Seymour made an appearance in just three games for the Commanders last season, all on special teams. After the team signed Jonathan Jones in free agency before drafting Trey Amos in the second round, those numbers are unlikely to improve in 2025.
