A Look into Coco Gauff’s Performance at the Madrid Open

Fourth-seeded Gauff was making her fifth appearance at the top WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid. The 21-year-old dominated a tricky draw, which started with a three-set win over Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine, then one-sided wins over Ann Li and Belinda Bencic.

Her run was continued as she beat seventh seed Mirra Andreeva and then recorded a win over former World No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the semifinals to reach her 11th career singles final on tour. But in the final, Aryna Sabalenka was the one to beat Gauff in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(3), claiming the title and equalling their head-to-head rivalry at five wins each.

Following the championship match, Gauff shared a picture from the ceremony, where she could be seen posing with the runner-up trophy. Codey Gauff left a supportive comment on her sister’s comments section, writing:

“Keep going.”

Coco Gauff Spoke Out About the Unique Role Her Brothers Have in Her Life

Coco Gauff is the oldest of three children with two younger brothers, Codey and Cameron, both exploring their own passions within the world of sport and creativity. 17-year-old Codey is an avid baseball player and plays as a pitcher, and Cameron, born in June 2013, enjoys attempting his hand at nearly every sport, including tennis and football.

In a recent Vogue interview, Gauff described how her two younger brothers have grounded her and supported her without condition.
“My brothers Codey and Cameron are definitely my biggest support, and they always root for me. And humble me,” Coco Gauff said.

The American tennis star joked that her brothers treat her the same no matter how she plays on the court: “When I do well, they’re still going to make fun of me. And when I do bad, they’re still going to make fun of me,” she said.
“Sometimes, when you’re competing, you feel like you’re putting your whole life into whatever match you’re playing and that the odds are life or death, that’s what’s on the line. But obviously, it’s not. Having people like them around makes you feel that pressure less,” Gauff added.
