Jessica Pegula recently revealed that she is struggling with injuries following the conclusion of her run at the 2025 Madrid Open. She expressed her concerns about her injuries as she prepares to compete in the upcoming Italian Open.

Before this year, Pegula last competed at the WTA 1000 event in 2023, where she defeated Magdalena Frech, Marie Bouzkova, and Martina Trevisan before being eliminated by Veronika Kudermetova in the quarterfinals.

Jessica Pegula’s Run At Madrid Open 2025 Ended Early

Pegula played her first clay-court tournament of 2025 at the Charleston Open and won it after beating compatriot Sofia Kenin in the final. The World No. 3 then participated in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, reaching the quarterfinals before being eliminated by Ekaterina Alexandrova.

At the Madrid Open, Pegula was seeded third and started her campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. She beat Eva Lys 6-2, 6-2 before suffering a 3-6, 2-6 defeat at the hands of Moyuka Uchijima in the third round.

Following the end of her campaign in Madrid, Pegula gave an update on her health on social media. The 31-year-old shared a selfie and revealed that she is currently traveling back home to focus on recovering from her injuries before commencing her campaign in Rome.

“It’s been an interesting few weeks for me. Struggling with a few injuries. Quick trip home to get healthy for Rome. Just getting stuck in Newark for 8hrs to get home at 3am stood in my way 🥴,” Pegula captioned her Instagram story.

Jessica Pegula has won 27 out of 35 matches so far in the 2025 season, having clinched two titles at the ATX Open and the Charlestonn Open. She also reached the finals of the Miami Open and the Adelaide International.

Jessica Pegula is Scheduled to Compete at the Italian Open After Madrid Exit

Jessica Pegula is next scheduled to compete at the 2025 Italian Open, which is set to take place from May 6-18 at the Foro Italico in Rome, Italy. The American last competed at the WTA 1000 event in 2023, when she was seeded third, and suffered a 2-6, 6-3, 3-6 loss to compatriot Taylor Townsend in the second round.

Pegula’s best result at the Italian Open came in 2021 when she reached the quarterfinals. She defeated players like Daria Kasatkina, Naomi Osaka, and Ekaterina Alexandrova before falling to Petra Martic in the last eight.
