Jaxson Dart will start his NFL journey under the tutelage of two veteran quarterbacks. Can he parlay that into early starts? The former Ole Miss standout brings not only a balanced skill set but also the self-confidence that will make teammates gravitate to him.
After watching Daniel Jones lose the team’s confidence every week, the team rightfully went in a new direction, releasing him midseason and bringing in three men under center.
How Old Is Jaxson Dart? Exploring the Giants’ Rookie QB
When the New York Giants selected Dart with the 25th overall selection, they envisioned a long-term solution with him as their starting quarterback. During his three years at the University of Mississippi, with a one-year hitch at USC, Dart proved himself to be one of the best quarterbacks in the storied history of the SEC.
In 2024, he completed 69.3% of his passes, which led the conference. Similarly, his career completion percentage mark of 65.7% ranks the Kaysville, Utah, native second in school history. The quarterback’s yards per attempt (10.8) led the FBS. By the same token, Dart’s career yards per attempt of 9.5 is tied for first in Ole Miss history.
Dart turns 22 on May 13 after his impressive college career. He threw for a combined 11,970 yards and 81 touchdowns in four season — along with 1,541 yards and 14 rushing scores.
Dart’s Scouting Report
PFSN’s Ian Cummings listed Dart as his fourth-best quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft.
“The Lane Kiffin offense at Ole Miss is one that consistently insulates QB production, and Jaxson Dart is the latest to ascend within it. His numbers improved year-over-year in college, culminating with 4,279 passing yards and 29 touchdowns in 2024,” Cummings said.
“Looking at the physical profile, it’s easy to see why. At 6’2″, 223 pounds, he has good size, great athleticism, and toughness, plus a loose, elastic arm that can layer throws.”
“The big question, how translatable is his game is to the pros? There are flashes of window anticipation on film, but NFL progression work is scant, and he often drops his eyes under pressure. Starter potential is there, but he has work to do before he harnesses it.”
How the rookie performs outside of his college offense will serve as the crucial key as to how he progresses.
After a six-year record of 24-44-1, the Giants jettisoned Jones. During the offseason, New York double-dipped, signing veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. With two starters competing for the top job, where does this leave Dart?
Actually, in a far better place than most. Brian Daboll, barring a winning season, will not see another year in East Rutherford, N.J., as the head coach.

Additionally, the team could let Winston and Wilson walk after this year, freeing up a starting spot. Meanwhile, away from the glare of the spotlight, Dart can learn to improve on the progressions that Cummings spoke to. In addition, while the veterans and coaching staff take all the heat, this sets up for Dart to become the hero in 2026.
