The Dallas Cowboys made headlines on Day 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft by selecting Alabama offensive lineman Tyler Booker with the No. 12 overall pick. It was a move that raised more than a few eyebrows, especially with the Cowboys expected to target offensive skill talent to support quarterback Dak Prescott and All-Pro wideout CeeDee Lamb.
But for one Cowboys superstar, the decision was a cause for celebration.
Micah Parsons Impressed With Tyler Booker’s Message
Four-time Pro Bowler Micah Parsons couldn’t contain his excitement over the pick, praising Booker not just for his on-field dominance, but for the attitude and mentality he brings to the locker room — a trait Parsons has long considered non-negotiable.
Booker, a team captain at Alabama, brings a physical and psychological edge to the game. In a draft night interview with Bleacher Report’s Adam Lefkoe, the 21-year-old summed up what makes him different:
“People wake up like, ‘I can’t wait to play this football game tonight.’ They take their hype music, they take their pre-workout, they get so excited to play football… until they come across Tyler Booker,” he said. “Then when I’m going after you — quarter after quarter, play after play, series after series — I start to see that love leave their eyes. That’s what makes me love the game.”
Parsons, upon hearing the quote, reportedly let out a yell of approval, exclaiming:
“Hey, man, welcome to the team.”
That stamp of approval from a player like Parsons speaks volumes about how Booker is already fitting into the Cowboys’ culture.
Booker’s Resume and Red Flags
Booker’s selection may have surprised casual fans, but his performance in college made him a lock to go early. Across more than 2,000 snaps at Alabama, he allowed just two sacks, anchoring one of the most consistently dominant lines in college football. He never surrendered more than 15 pressures in a single season.
However, the rookie isn’t without flaws. Booker led Alabama’s offensive front in penalties last season, committing seven in just 13 games. Discipline will be his first challenge as he transitions to the pros — and something the Cowboys coaching staff will surely be keeping a close eye on.
Dallas finished the 2024 season ranked 17th in PFSN’s OL+ metric with a C+ grade. That’s a middle-of-the-pack line protecting a quarterback with a growing injury history in Dak Prescott. Reinforcing that unit was a must, and Booker figures to be a plug-and-play addition who brings attitude and protection up front.
Bottom Line: Booker may not have been the flashiest pick, but he could prove to be one of the most important. His toughness, leadership, and already established chemistry with defensive leaders like Micah Parsons hint at a strong locker room fit.
If he can clean up the penalties and translate his SEC dominance to the NFL, the Cowboys may have found a cornerstone lineman who plays with the fire of a star and the mindset of a mauler, perhaps even a player built in the mold of future Hall of Famer Zack Martin.
