Serena Williams Reveals That Her Retirement Was “Worth It” Because of Adira
Speaking to Time recently, Williams shared why her retirement was rewarding courtesy of her younger daughter, Adira.
As mentioned earlier, Williams drew the curtains on her illustrious career after losing to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round of the 2022 US Open. One of the major reasons for her retirement was embracing motherhood.
“I just can’t peel myself away from these children. Another reason I had to transition was because I wanted to have more kids. And I look at Adira, and I’m like, ‘Was it worth it?’ I literally thought about it the other day. I was like, ‘Yeah, it was definitely worth it,'” added Williams.
The 43-year-old achieved numerous milestones in her career. From winning 23 Grand Slam titles to 4 Olympic gold medals, she did it all to be called one of the greats of the open era. Moreover, she is the only player, male or female, to have completed a Golden Slam in both singles and doubles. The feat stems from her success at all four Grand Slams and an Olympic gold medal.
