Naomi Osaka brushed off her first-round defeat at the 2025 Madrid Open by indulging in a self-photoshoot. Last year, the Japanese used protected ranking to secure her spot in the main draw , where she triumphed over Greet Minnen in the first round before losing to Liudmila Samsonova in the second.
Osaka’s best performance at the WTA 1000 clay-court tournament came in 2019 when she defeated Dominika Cibulkova, Sara Sorribes Tormo, and Aliaksandra Sasnovich before being eliminated by Belinda Bencic in the quarterfinals.

Naomi Osaka Was Defeated in Her Opening Match at Madrid Open 2025

Osaka faced off against Lucia Bronzetti in the first round of the 2025 Madrid Open. The match began with Bronzetti claiming the first set 6-4, but Osaka rallied back to secure the second set 6-2.

Despite the former World No. 1’s efforts, the Italian emerged victorious by clinching the third set, ultimately winning the match with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. This match marked the third encounter between Osaka and Bronzetti on the WTA Tour, with the Italian now holding a head-to-head record of one win and two losses against Osaka.

Following the conclusion of her Madrid Open campaign, Osaka took to social media to share a series of photos of herself dressed in a stylish striped top, denim pants, and a New York Yankees cap. She accessorized her look with several pieces of chic jewelry.

In the caption, Osaka expressed that she doesn’t stay discouraged for long and that she is taking on a new day being “happy,” “healthy” and “blessed.”

“I lowkey have short term memory loss so I don’t stay discouraged for long- we woke up this morning, we’re blessed, we’re healthy and we’re happy- wthelly,” Osaka captioned her Instagram post.

Naomi Osaka Will Next Compete at Italian Open 2025

Osaka is next expected to participate in the 2025 Italian Open, scheduled to take place from May 6 to May 18, 2025, on the outdoor clay courts at the Foro Italico in Rome, Italy.

Last year, Osaka used her protected ranking to secure a spot in the main draw of the WTA 1000 clay tournament. She defeated Clara Burel 7-6(2), 6-1, and Marta Kostyuk 6-3, 6-2 in the first and second rounds, respectively. She then triumphed over Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 6-3 in the third round, before being bested by Zheng Qinwen 6-2, 6-4 in the fourth round.

Osaka’s best result at the Italian Open was in 2019. She was the top seed and began her run at the tournament in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. She defeated Dominika Cibulkova 6-3, 6-3 in her opening match and then overcame Mihaela Buzarnescu 6-3, 6-3 in the third round.

The former World No. 1 was scheduled to face Kiki Bertens in the quarterfinals but withdrew ahead of the match due to a hand injury.
