Helm saw action in 12 games as a true freshman for the Longhorns in 2021, though he did not record a reception. In 2022, he earned four starts across 13 games. During the 2023 season, he made six starts in 14 games, recording 14 receptions for 192 yards and two touchdowns.
Helm returned for his senior season in 2024, and in Week 2, he delivered a breakout performance against Michigan, racking up seven receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown in a Texas win. With his strong 2024 campaign, he was named a semifinalist for the John Mackey Award.
Over his four-year college career, Helm recorded 79 receptions for 1,022 yards and nine touchdowns.

Helm ran a 4.84-second 40-yard dash. His 10-yard split was the slowest among tight ends at 1.69 seconds. He had a 30-inch vertical jump but did not participate in the broad jump.

Helm completed the three-cone drill with a time of 7.15 seconds, the fourth-best among tight ends. He also ran the 20-yard shuttle in 4.4 seconds, ranking sixth out of nine tight ends in the group. In PFSN’s latest mock draft, Helm is projected to land with the Denver Broncos who select him at No. 85 overall.
Pairing Helm with newly acquired tight end Evan Engram would help bolster one of the worst tight end rooms in the league in 2024.
