After a Legendary Journey, Keith Bulluck Steps Back Into NFL Spotlight for Titans

This year’s pick announcer for the Titans is former linebacker Keith Bulluck, who played for the team from 2000 to 2009. Tennessee selected Bulluck with the 30th pick of the 2000 NFL Draft after he played four years at Syracuse.

Bulluck, 48, played multiple positions in college, spending time at safety, outside linebacker, and middle linebacker. He finished his college career with 375 tackles, six sacks, three interceptions, and three forced fumbles. That year’s first round included four other linebackers, including LaVar Arrington and Brian Urlacher.

Bulluck arrived in Tennessee the year after the team’s heartbreaking Super Bowl 34 loss. He spent his first two seasons as a backup and special-teams player before earning the starting role in 2002.

Bulluck then started a seven-year streak of starting every game of the season beginning in 2002. In his first year as a starter, he posted 127 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and one interception en route to second-team All-Pro honors. He followed that up with his only Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro campaign in 2003.

The linebacker totaled 137 tackles, six pass breakups, five forced fumbles, and two interceptions that season. The Titans made the playoffs both years, although they exited in the Divisional Round each time.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted the list of pick announcers, and Bulluck is part of a fun group who will take the stage at Lambeau Field.

Schefter tweeted, “A look at the former and active players now scheduled to announce their teams’ picks next Friday night for rounds 2 and 3 of the NFL draft,” along with a picture of the list.

In a sign of how much the NFL has changed financially since Bulluck’s rookie days, he signed a five-year, $5.563 million contract with Tennessee in 2000, then inked a six-year, $36 million extension in 2004. By comparison, Nate Wiggins, the 30th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, has just over $6 million of his $12.8 million rookie deal guaranteed.

Bulluck made the playoffs two more times with Tennessee, in 2007 and 2008, but the team went one-and-done both years. He signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal with the New York Giants for the 2010 season. Bulluck played 13 games with eight starts that year, totaling 31 tackles and two interceptions. He was not with a team in 2011 and announced his retirement after the season.

Since retiring, Bulluck has picked up curling and joined a team of former NFL players led by Jared Allen, aiming to represent the United States at the 2022 Winter Olympics. The group ultimately did not qualify for Olympic competition.

Bulluck also opened a Just Love Coffee Cafe in 2020 in a Nashville, Tenn., suburb. The cafe’s mission is to help underprivileged and poor youth in the area. Titans fans should be happy to see one of the team’s legends stepping back into the NFL spotlight.
