NFL insiders Field Yates and Marc Ross reveals the Browns and Giants are using smokescreens, keeping their 2025 NFL Draft plans hidden.

In the final stretch before the 2025 NFL Draft, the spotlight isn’t just on prospects but also on the strategies used by front offices to conceal their intentions.

NFL insiders Field Yates and Marc Ross recently discussed which teams are best at keeping their plans under wraps, mentioning two organizations that have embraced strategic silence and smokescreens: the Cleveland Browns and the New York Giants.

NFL Insider Believes Browns and Giants Leading the League in Draft Secrecy and Smokescreens

During a segment on Path to the Draft, Marc Ross emphasized the intrigue surrounding the teams holding the No. 2 and No. 3 picks. “…We still don’t know what they’re gonna do. And that’s to me sitting right up at the top at two and three with the Browns and the Giants,” Ross said.

While much speculation has centered around Abdul Carter and Travis Hunter, Ross suggested the Browns may be intentionally downplaying their interest in quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

He explained, “We haven’t heard them a lot with Shedeur Sanders with the Browns, except for our esteemed Bucky Brooks, who has them taking him in the mock draft. But besides that, there really hasn’t been a lot of intrigue with Shedeur to the Browns.”

Ross felt that this silence could be strategic: “Sometimes when teams don’t talk about a player or don’t put it out in the media sphere, then they end up taking that player.”

The Giants, meanwhile, have fueled speculation through last-minute workouts with quarterbacks like Sanders and Jaxson Dart. “Now with all these workouts coming late into the process, like, oh, are they trying to get even more intrigue? Are they really gonna take Shedeur or Jaxson Dart?” Ross said.

This uncertainty has led analysts to question whether the Giants are following the script or deliberately rewriting it to confuse rival teams.

NFL Analyst Field Yates echoed these sentiments, praising the Browns and Giants for keeping their intentions closely guarded. “The Browns and Giants have avoided clear public signals about their draft preferences,” Yates noted, contrasting their silence with the typical pre-draft buzz from other franchises.

Yates also mentioned two additional teams – the Jaguars and the Jets, for maintaining draft secrecy, but he made it clear that the Browns and Giants are leading the league in discretion. Their strategy of minimal leaks, limited public commentary, and unexpected prospect workouts not only keeps rival teams off balance but also enhances their tactical position on draft night.

Yates concluded, “We’ll never know what their plans were, but at least what they actually did on draft night.” With the draft just days away, the moves made by Cleveland and New York will soon be revealed, and possibly reshape how other teams handle pre-draft smokescreens in the future.
