Aaron Rodgers Reveals Whether He Has Done Ayahuasca As He Weighs Free Agency Decision

Aaron Rodgers still hasn’t made a free agency decision in what’s become one of the wildest offseason sagas in recent NFL memory. Most fans believe he’ll eventually sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but with the 2025 NFL Draft just a week away, the 41-year-old quarterback still doesn’t have a team.

Rodgers recently appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and gave some insight into why he hasn’t signed yet. He said he’s been dealing with things in his personal life that have taken priority. While he didn’t offer many specifics, he made it clear that football hasn’t been at the top of his list lately. He also made a point to say he hasn’t done ayahuasca in a while — just in case anyone was wondering.

Aaron Rodgers Avoiding Ayahuasca With Free Agency Decision Looming

Rodgers said people are spinning their own stories about what’s happening, but he wanted fans to know it’s nothing dramatic. “I’m working through some personal things,” he said. “It’s not as crazy as some people want to make it out to be.”

Ayahuasca, a psychedelic tea traditionally used in Amazonian healing ceremonies, has become part of Rodgers’ identity in recent years. He’s spoken about how it helped him with self-reflection, growth, and clarity. Some fans embraced his openness, while others rolled their eyes. Either way, it’s now a part of the Rodgers story.

The former Jets quarterback even starred in a Netflix docuseries called Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, where he went on an ayahuasca retreat with NFL veterans Jordan Poyer, Adrian Colber,t and Von Miller. That trip made headlines — and memes — but it also gave a glimpse into the lifestyle that Rodgers has leaned into during the back half of his career.

In terms of football, Rodgers is coming off a tough stretch. He tore his Achilles just four snaps into the 2023 season, killing the Jets’ momentum before it even started. He made his return in 2024 and put up decent numbers: 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. But the team still struggled and ended the year with a 5-12 record.

With Justin Fields now set to lead the Jets, Rodgers is once again looking for the right situation. The Steelers are widely seen as the most likely landing spot, but no one knows for sure. As always, Rodgers is keeping everyone guessing.

Whether he chooses Pittsburgh or surprises the league again, this will likely be the final stop in his Hall of Fame career. For now, all eyes are on Rodgers—just the way he likes it.
