Winnipeg Jets Make Shrewd Move, Lock Down Key Forward With Massive $11,000,000 Deal

The Winnipeg Jets have signed forward Alex Iafallo on a new contract worth $11 million, NHL insider Chris Johnston reported.

NHL insider Chris Johnston shared the news that the Winnipeg Jets have signed forward Alex Iafallo to a new contract worth $ 11 million. According to Johnston, the three-year deal carries an average annual value (AAV) of $ 3.67 million per year. Iafallo’s old deal was set to expire at the end of this season.

Winnipeg Jets Will Lean on Alex Iafallo in the Postseason

The 31-year-old Iafallo has 15 goals and 16 assists (31 points) in 81 games this season. He is currently riding a four-game point streak. His most recent goal came in the 4-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday, April 13.

The Jets clinched the Presidents’ Trophy despite their loss to the Oilers. Winnipeg coach Scott Arniel lauded his team’s achievement but claimed their focus had shifted to the playoffs.

“At the end of the day, it’s not the trophy we’re after,” Winnipeg coach Scott Arniel said via NHL.com. “It’s a heck of an accomplishment. Guys should be real proud of it, just what we’ve gone through this year.”

Iafallo scored at 6:16 in the second period on a power play to tie the game at 1-1 before the Oilers scored three goals to run away with the game.

“He’s a great player,” Jets’ forward Nino Niederreiter said via NHL.com. “We all know what he’s capable of. He’s a great two-way player. He always goes out there and does his best possible. Doesn’t matter what line he is on. And I think he’s a terrific player for us.”

Iafallo has two goals and two assists in his last four games. He has scored four goals in 10 games since filling in for the injured Gabriel Vilardi on the Jets’ top line.

Iafallo was signed by the Los Angeles Kings in 2017 after initially going undrafted. He was in his second season with the Jets during the 2024-25 season. He has scored 111 goals and provided 151 assists for 262 points in 583 games in his NHL career. He’s also played in 21 career playoff games with 10 points to his name.

Iafallo has emerged as a solid middle-sixer for the Jets this season, with his two-way game stiffening their forward line and allowing them to defend from the front.

The Jets are strong contenders for the Stanley Cup this season and will aim to advance deep into the playoffs. Iafallo is set to emerge as a crucial piece in their strategy, given his experience in the postseason.

The Jets will play the Anaheim Ducks in their last regular-season game on Wednesday, April 16. They are set to face off against the St. Louis Blues in the first round of the playoffs. The Blues clinched the second playoff spot in the Central Division on Tuesday, April 15.
