Bill Belichick is arguably the greatest head coach in NFL history. His career spanned from 1975 to 2023, beginning as a special assistant with the then Baltimore Colts and reaching legendary status as the head coach of the New England Patriots, where he led the franchise for 24 seasons and built one of the most iconic dynasties in sports.
After spending a year away from the sidelines, Belichick made a surprising return to coaching — not in the NFL, but in college football. He accepted the head coaching job at North Carolina, a move that few expected to see on his résumé.
What caught even more attention, however, was the involvement of Belichick’s 24-year-old girlfriend in the process. According to a report by The Athletic, several emails between her and the university were revealed, shedding light on her surprising role in the operation.
Jordon Hudson Advised the School on Many Topics Regarding Bill Belichick
Anything involving an NFL legend is bound to draw attention — especially when that legend is a 72-year-old coach dating a 24-year-old, who suddenly appears involved in official university emails at his personal request. But the situation starts to make more sense when you take a closer look at Hudson’s actual involvement in the process.
According to the report by The Athletic, most of the emails in which Hudson was copied were routine and involved little to no direct input from her. Her role appeared to be more focused on matters related to social media and managing Belichick’s public image on specific topics, rather than influencing any football-related decisions.
One of Hudson’s concerns, according to the report, was the potential perception of nepotism, as Bill Belichick’s son, Steve Belichick, had been hired as the school’s defensive coordinator. She reportedly wanted to ensure the public narrative around the hire didn’t spark unnecessary backlash or controversy.
“Though Steve Belichick is in fact Bill’s son, he should be depicted and represented as his own established, credible entity as opposed to an extension of Bill,” she wrote on an email. “It can be easily misinterpreted that Steve is simply benefitting from nepotism but that is not the case. Steve was fortunate to have learned defensive football strategy from the ‘greatest defensive mind’ of all-time. He has earned his position due to his performance and output.”
Hudson has a background in social media, having worked for a year as a brand ambassador for the clothing company Rebel Athletic. With over 81,000 followers on Instagram, her concern about Belichick’s public image appears to be part of a joint effort to manage potential PR noise and maintain a positive narrative around his new role.
Another concern raised by Hudson was the negative comments about Belichick circulating on social media. She reportedly asked the university to monitor activity on its official pages, remove harmful remarks, and block users who posted that kind of content.
“Is there anyone monitoring the UNC Football page for slanderous commentary and subsequently deleting it / blocking users that are harassing BB in the comments?” Hudson asked, in another email.
One notable detail is that Jordon Hudson identifies herself in her email signature as the Chief Operating Officer of “Belichick Productions.” However, The Athletic’s investigation found no record of any registered business under that name.
Whatever Hudson’s actual professional involvement with Belichick may be, she has no official ties to the university. Instead, she appears to serve more as a personal consultant to the coach, particularly on matters related to social media. At 72 years old, Belichick now has someone from a far more media-savvy generation helping him navigate one of the more complicated aspects of his career: public perception.
