Miami quarterback Cam Ward has slowly solidified himself as the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. There was a debate between him and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders as to who was the better QB, and Ward won. There’s been a debate between him and Penn State’s Abdul Carter, and Ward has won again after a strong showing at his Pro Day.
The entire Tennessee Titans brain trust attended Ward’s stellar performance, and FS1’s Craig Carton feels Ward is a “can’t-miss” prospect.
FS1 Analyst Labels Cam Ward A ‘Can’t-Miss’ QB Prospect
Ward’s five-year college career was one of the most prolific in NCAA history. He played two years at FCS Incarnate Word, throwing for 4,648 yards and 47 touchdowns in his second season. He spent 2022 and 2023 at Washington State before finishing at Miami. The step up to FBS didn’t slow Ward down as he became the all-time Division 1 career touchdowns leader with 178.
His final college season was special as Ward led the Hurricanes to a 9-0 start, including multiple massive comebacks where he put the team on his back. He finished with 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions last season en route to being named an All-American and finishing fourth in Heisman Trophy Voting.
Ward opted out of the on-field workout at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine and put on a show at Miami’s Pro Day. Carton hosts “Breakfast Ball” on FS1 and recently threw his confidence behind Ward.
Carton said, “That dude’s a money-good for me, I think he is a can’t-miss guy. I see a lot of what I saw in Caleb Williams coming out of USC. Love the kid’s personality as well. That’s a dude that you can tell is a gym rat. Just loves playing ball. Loves being in the gym. Takes it seriously.

“I saw him do things on the football field I’ve not seen a lot of great college quarterbacks do. He has this poise in the pocket where even as the pocket’s collapsing, he doesn’t panic. He’s obviously got a cannon for an arm.”
Carton is confident in Ward’s game translating to the NFL level, and the Titans seem confident as well, sending their GM, head coach, and many others to Miami’s Pro Day. Tennessee needs a lot of offensive help after finishing No. 27 in PFSN’s Offense+ metric last season. Will Levis struggled in his second season, coming in at No. 34 in PFSN’s QB+ metric, and Ward seems like the logical pick at No. 1.
Ward will have to prove himself in the NFL, but he’s firmly taken control of the first overall pick debate.
In PFSN’s latest 7-round NFL mock draft, Ward did, in fact, go first overall to Tennessee.
“Ward is the upside play as the ultimate playmaker at QB, boasting elite arm talent, effortless velocity, and dynamic athleticism. His confidence and creativity set him apart, but more development is required before he will be anything close to the finished product. With Will Levis and Brandon Allen on the roster, Ward’s development will come on the field in 2025” PFSN’s Ben Rolfe wrote.
