Travis Hunter will be among the 329 prospects scheduled to attend the NFL Combine drills at Lucas Oil Stadium from Feb. 27 to March 2. His case is slightly different because the Colorado standout is a two-way athlete. Players are grouped according to their respective positions and follow the schedule accordingly.
Although Hunter is enrolled as a cornerback, NFL Combine president Jeff Foster is ready to go the extra mile to accommodate him if he wants to participate in wide receiver drills. Fox Sports analyst RJ Young recently discussed Foster’s announced provision and how well it could fit with the current setup.
Travis Hunter Can Participate in WR, CB Workouts at NFL Combine
Heading into the 2025 NFL Draft, Hunter is a top prospect among NFL teams, projected to go as a top-five pick. Despite his impressive stock, the 21-year-old star didn’t skip the workouts. Instead, he’s using every opportunity to show the league his skills.
While his position remains uncertain, the NFL Combine president mentioned that Hunter can participate in all types of workouts if he is willing to.
The arrangements will be altered for him so that he can handle the workload throughout the event. RJ Young gave his opinion on how feasible this opportunity will turnout for Hunter.
“Jeff Foster came out and told the AP, ‘Look, we have told him if he wants to go through the combine at defensive back and receiver, we will not only allow it, we will be enthusiastic about it.’” Young said on his podcast this week.
“He even went as far as to say, ‘Look, I just need to know if he wants to be in both groups so that we could assign him to a group. Whether or not he participates in both of those things, we’ll see. Whether or not he participates in any of the drills, we’ll see’.” Defensive backs and wide receivers have back-to-back days for workouts, including bench press or running the 40-yard dash.
“If he chooses to do those things, it probably won’t be required on consecutive days because that would just be stupid.” Instead, he would be asked to do one on one day or go through the measurements and weightlifting the day before, then do everything else the next day.
“It’s a really interesting logistical problem to sort out, and that’s what Jeff Foster is there to do — make the best possible environment for the 329 athletes invited to the combine at Lucas Oil Stadium and ensure a seamless process for teams,” he added.
Per reports, the 2024 Heisman winner will be a top-three pick in the draft. The Tennessee Titans and the New York Giants are among the franchises heavily considering adding Hunter.
