Tyreek Hill vs. Noah Lyles and the 60-Meter Race That Might Set the Internet on Fire — ‘We’re in Talks’

In an interview, American Olympian Noah Lyles responded to the race challenge from Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill -- and they're in talks. Who's winning?

Back in August, Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill called out Noah Lyles on social media after the 100-meter gold medalist said on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast “Nightcap” that Hill was “just chasing clout” by challenging the track star to a race. Could the two actually go head-to-head in any sort of track-style event?

With Lyles sitting down for an interview with ESPN, let’s see if the American Olympian shared any new updates on the clash.

Are Tyreek Hill and Noah Lyles Racing?

ESPN’s Stan Verrett sat down with Lyles on “SportsCenter,” where the two covered quite a few topics, including a few questions surrounding the challenge issued by Hill. Lyles offered his condolences to Hill regarding his interaction with the Miami-Dade Police outside of Hard Rock Stadium, but the sprinter didn’t hold back in regards to the idea of a race.

Lyles explained, “In terms of running a race, you got to be serious. Everybody wants to jump up to the top. Everybody wants to race the fastest man. I didn’t grab this title because it’s easy or because I went the easy route.”

But after Verrett asked if Hill should take down some other sprinters before taking on the world’s fastest man, Lyles replied smugly, “You can’t take a shot at the title, but I’ll let you take a shot at me.” He later went on to say that the two parties are “in talks” on a potential 60-meter race.

While Hill originally challenged Lyles to a 50-yard dash, a hair longer than the common drill at the NFL Combine, it only comes out to just over 45 meters. However, among the back-and-forth, Lyles had previously said, “He’s challenging me. We’re racing in the 100[-meter dash], we can race.”

The 60-meter sprint seems to be a decent compromise but could slightly favor Hill. A two-time state track champion at Coffee High School in Douglas, Ga., Hill won the 60-meter sprint at the USA Track and Field Masters Indoor Championships in March 2023 with a time of 6.7 seconds. While Lyles showed off an incredible late burst of speed to clinch his 100-meter medal, will Hill be able to give him a run for his money?
