How Many Picks Do the 49ers Have in the 2025 NFL Draft?

As we head into Round 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft, the 49ers have 11 picks. Six of those are their original selections, with only Round 6 missing. There are then three compensatory selections and two selections acquired via trades.

The Round 6 selection was sent to the Minnesota Vikings in the trade that saw Jordan Mason head to Minneapolis. The 49ers did get back a fifth-round pick in return for that trade.

The 49ers also have an extra third-round pick thanks to the Houston Texans hiring DeMeco Ryans as their head coach. They got that selection as part of the JC-2A Resolution, which surrounds the hiring of minority coaches or general managers and rewarding the teams from which they were hired.

Additionally, the 49ers have another fifth-round selection, which came from the Washington Commanders in the Deebo Samuel trade. The 49ers sent Samuel and received a fifth-round pick that had originally been the New Orleans Saints in return.

What Are the 49ers’ Biggest Needs in 2025?

  • DT, CB, LB, EDGE, G

The San Francisco 49ers had a disappointing encore to their 2023 Super Bowl run. Their 26th-ranked defense from 2024 has been a big focus, even if the headlines will likely continue revolving around the headliners on offense.

Releasing Javon Hargrave has created a very thin defensive tackle room, creating a major need with Jordan Elliott and Evan Anderson as the current projected starters. Cornerback stands out as almost the co-biggest need after Charvarius Ward’s departure. They will be looking for at least one starter they can rely on and then plenty of depth at both positions.

With Dre Greenlaw departing this offseason, the 49ers need to address linebacker. Dee Winters could start next to Fred Warner, but they will likely look to add at least one more startable option. At EDGE, the need is more rotational, with Nick Bosa giving the unit a very high floor, though they could use some pass rush juice with Leonard Floyd’s departure.

Offensively, they need to replace starting left guard Aaron Banks, and then there is the question of the tackle spots. Trent Williams is still excellent but is in the twilight of his career, while Colton McKivitz will be a free agent next offseason. They need someone who can be a solid backup in 2025 and a potential starter beyond that.
