Jon Feliciano Apologizes for Social Media Blame

It all started with the 49ers’ last offensive play of the game. It was 3rd-and-4 at the Kansas City 9-yard line. Brock Purdy dropped back to pass, and both Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings got open. However, Chiefs’ defensive tackle Chris Jones ran free and pressured Purdy, forcing an incomplete pass. Fourth down; field goal attempt.

Following the 49ers taking the lead, 22-19, the Chiefs then drove down the field, scoring a walk-off touchdown from Patrick Mahomes to Mecole Hardman.

Following the game, many fans on X (formerly known as Twitter) placed the third-down-play blame on 49ers right tackle Colton McKivitz. However, left guard Jon Feliciano made sure it was known that it wasn’t McKivitz’s fault. “I know you know all, so u should know that’s not Colton’s guy….,” Feliciano said on X.

“A quick chop is not needed if the guy that was supposed to block him, blocks him,” added Feliciano when a fan asked who’s fault it was. The reply inherently threw Burford, the right guard, under the bus.

Burford had previously also come to McKivitz’s defense. “Should’ve fanned out and let the backer be the free hitter,” Burford said on X. “Nah, just tell them to chill on Colt please, that’s all I ask ….”

“Sheesh… I open up my app to this …Get well soon bro …,” Burford said after seeing Feliciano’s comments.

However, Feliciano did apologize afterward. “I’m sorry bro. I woke up hungover and being a b***h,” Feliciano said. “In trying to have ones back, I hurt u. It’s f-Ed up and I apologize. You got nothing but greatness ahead of you. I’m sorry bro.”

Feliciano just finished up his ninth NFL season and first with the 49ers after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders. He signed a one-year deal with the 49ers and is set to be a free agent on March 13 when the new league year starts.

Burford, on the other hand, is in his second NFL season, both with the 49ers. He was taken in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of UTSA. Unlike Feliciano, he is under contract through the 2025 season.
