It has been a whirlwind of a day for now former Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich. Just yesterday the long-time NFL coach was roaming the sidelines for the Panthers, and not even 24 hours later he has been relieved of his duties. Life comes at you fast in the NFL, and no one probably knows that better right now than Reich does.
With such a quick change of events for the coach, it is natural for someone to start thinking about what their future may look like going forward. Just mere hours following being fired from the Panthers, Reich had a chance to speak to the media and may have tipped his hand on what his future now looks like.
Frank Reich Reveals Plans After Being Fired
Reich got a chance to speak with the media after his firing this morning and gave his peace on the matter. While speaking with Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer, Reich alluded to the fact this might be it for him and his time in the NFL.
MORE: Who Is the Carolina Panthers’ Head Coach?
While he didn’t flat-out say that he was done coaching, he did allude to the fact that it was a possibility: “This is probably the final chapter of my NFL journey.”
“It was a great opportunity,” Reich continued. “The way the doors opened up for it was amazing. But there’s not always a storybook ending. … I also take comfort and find peace and strength that there is a next chapter of my life. I do believe that. I do believe God ordains our steps.”
While it is on to whatever lies next for him and his future, Reich knows that things did not go the way he had hoped during his time in Carolina and understands he will now have to live with the events of this season going forward.
“There’s a heart-pounding disappointment in not hitting the marks that we needed to hit to keep this going and try to get it turned around,” Reich said. “It hurts me for the guys, the team, the coaches, and the fans.”
What Was Reich’s Record With Carolina?
Reich finished his tenure with the Panthers with an abysmal 1-10 record. His career head coaching record is 41-43-1 in the regular season while also being 1-2 in playoff games over his six years as the head guy.

Yes, he has won a Super Bowl as a coach; however, it was as an offensive coordinator. In 2018, Reich was the Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator under now-Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Pederson. The Eagles beat the New England Patriots to capture the franchise’s first-ever Lombardi Trophy.
