The latest Miami Dolphins injury report could see a change in the backfield.
Per the league’s transaction wire on Wednesday, RB Raheem Mostert’s name was among the Dolphins who showed up on the injury report ahead of Miami’s Week 2 contest vs. the New England Patriots. Mostert was ruled as “did not practice” while dealing with a knee ailment.

Is Raheem Mostert Still Able to Play?
It’s not determined what the severity of Mostert’s knee injury is. However, per Cameron Wolfe of the NFL Network, his missed practice became nothing to worry about. He was given a veteran rest day.
Sounds like missed practice is nothing to worry about on Raheem Mostert. Just vet rest. He’s good to go. https://t.co/oXFsxpMsjm

The veteran running back has had a history of chronic knee problems in his career.
Dating back to Sept. 20, 2020, Mostert suffered an MCL sprain facing the New York Jets during the second quarter of that contest. He missed the next two games.
Then n June 2021, during organized team activities (OTAs), Mostert suffered a patella sprain. He was eventually good to go for 49ers training camp after the June workout session.
But in the season opener against the Detroit Lions, Mostert sustained chipped cartilage in his knee and ended up going on injured reserve for the rest of the year.
Who’s Left in RB Room if Mostert Can’t go?
Mostert was the lead running back for Miami during its thrilling 36-34 Week 1 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
However, Mostert finished with 10 carries for 37 yards and averaged just 3.7 yards per carry.
The rest of Miami’s running game didn’t fare much better facing Joey Bosa, Khalil Mack, Eric Kendricks, and company, averaging 3.5 yards per carry. So, if Mostert isn’t healthy enough still, who is still left as options?
Salvon Ahmed had just three carries for 11 yards. 2022 fourth-rounder Erik Ezukanma averaged 8.5 yards per carry, but he only saw two handoffs as a receiver. Ahmed, though, told PFN Dolphins reporter Adam Beasley that the Dolphins backfield is in good hands moving forward, even if Mostert isn’t available.
“That’s a great room to be a part of,” Ahmed said. “You know, everybody comes out there every single day and works extremely hard, whether it’s in the film room or on the field.”
Ahmed continued, “We all got each other’s back, and whoever is out there, like I said, we all got each other’s back and a lot of trust in that room.”
Perhaps Week 2 could be the game in which De’Von Achane goes from a healthy scratch to the active roster. If Mostert isn’t available, Achane gives Miami a third option in the ground game.
Fantasy Football Impact of Mostert’s Injury
– Analysis by PFN Fantasy Analyst Kyle SoppeÂ
Mostert popped up on the injury report today, a day in which promising rookie Achane practiced in full. With Jeff Wilson on IR, Mostert handled 76.9% of Miami’s running back carries last week in a plus-matchup against the Chargers and underwhelmed outside of a touchdown. If this is, in fact, the Achane show in his NFL debut, the fantasy appeal will be minimal.

It’s unlikely that he absorbs all of that Mostert role, and if he is only getting 50-60% of the total Dolphins RB carries, he won’t crack the top 30 at the position against a Patriots defense that held the Eagles to under four yards per carry in Week 1. Regardless of the severity of this injury to Mostert, Achane is worthy of a roster spot in all leagues.
