Will Patrick Mahomes Play in the Preseason Finale?

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid believes in giving his starters work in the preseason, and Mahomes is not exempt from that. While we have seen Mahomes in action this preseason, it is not a foregone conclusion that he will be suiting up on Saturday. We may see Mahomes one final time before Week 1, but it has not been confirmed yet.

Who Will Play With Mahomes?

We have seen Mahomes, and the idea is we may see him at least for a series or two, even if it has not been confirmed just yet.

Either way, the bulk of the work under center for the Chiefs on Saturday will be manned by a few guys not named Mahomes. The Chiefs currently have three other quarterbacks on the roster expected to get action on Saturday.

The first up off the bench will be solidified QB2 and NFL veteran Blaine Gabbert. Gabbert has spent the last three seasons backing up Tom Brady in Tampa Bay and now is turning the page to Kansas City to play behind another NFL great.

Up next after Gabbert is third-year QB out of SMU, Shane Buechele. Buechele has not seen any regular-season action so far in his career but has received extensive work this preseason, and the work he’s been getting will go a long way in extending his NFL career.

Buechele hopes to stay in K.C., but if not, he needs a great audition to win over one of the 31 other teams.

The fourth and final quarterback slated to round out Kansas City’s preseason action is second-year seventh-round pick Chris Oladokun out of South Dakota State.

This will be Oladokun’s final crack at preseason action in 2023, and although it’s a small opportunity, it will still serve as an important chance for the young QB to grow. His preseason work will give K.C. the opportunity to evaluate and assess the young signal-caller further after spending all of last season on the Chiefs’ practice squad.
