Bowling Green 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Reports

Christian Sims, TE

Strengths: Athletic pass-catching tight end who has been very consistent the past two seasons. Fluid releasing off the line of scrimmage, plays to his 40 time, and gets down the field to split the seam. Tracks the pass in the air, gets vertical and adjusts or contorts, then grabs the ball out of the air. Displays terrific awareness, uses the sidelines well, and naturally catches the ball.

Consistently makes the reception away from his frame and keeps the play in bounds. Runs solid routes for a tight end, comes over the middle of the field, and possesses eye/hand coordination. Displays soft as well as strong hands, exposes himself to the big hit, and comes away with the tough catch. Fundamentally sound blocker who bends his knees and gets his hands up.

Weaknesses: Limited strength. Struggles controlling linebackers at the point of attack. Short and has limited growth potential. Possesses small hands.

Overall: Simms was a reliable target for Bowling Green the past two seasons. He has enough ability to be the third man on a roster that needs a move tight end.

Karl Brooks, DL

Strengths: Underrated defensive line prospect who can rush the passer or stop the run. Explosive, breaks down well, and plays with proper pad level. Relentless, quickly locates the ball handler, and plays through the whistle. Stays with assignments, displays a tremendous first step, and flashes power in his lower body.

Agile, does a terrific job using his hands, and moves well about the field. Tough to move off the point. Nicely redirects to the action or immediately alters his angle of attack. Slices inside blocks to penetrate the line of scrimmage, then disrupts the action. Occasionally stands over tackle and effectively rushes the passer.

Weaknesses: Inconsistent using his hands. Not bulky or strong. Can be easily knocked from his angle of attack or out-positioned from the action.

Overall: Brooks has shown tremendous ability the past two seasons after making an impact at Bowling Green as a freshman and sophomore. He’s been very productive in all areas and comes with the size, athleticism, and skill to make an NFL roster as a defensive tackle in a four-man line.
