Dallas Goedert’s Contract Details

Goedert’s contract is a four-year extension worth $57 million. The contract this a somewhat complicated one, with the $57 million in new money split between a base salary, a signing bonus, two options bonuses, and three workout bonuses. The contract breaks down as follows:

  • Base Salary: $29.987 million
  • Signing Bonus: $10.218 million
Prorates at $2.044 million per year from 2021-2025
  • Option Bonus 1 (2022): $3.215 million
    Fully guaranteed at signing
Prorates at $643,132 per year from 2022-2026
  • Option Bonus 2 (2023): $12.92 million
    Fully guaranteed in March 2022
Prorates at $2.584 million per year from 2023-2027
  • Workout Bonus (Total): $750,000
    $250,000 per year in 2023, 2024, and 2025

Goedert has two void years included in his deal in order to spread the cap hits of the option bonuses across the full five years. The contract is set to void in 2026, and Goedert will be an unrestricted free agent that offseason, assuming he doesn’t sign an extension between now and then.

In 2023, Goedert’s cap number is set to be $6.601 million — the 20th-highest number at the position as things stand on Feb. 7. Goedert’s cap number for 2023 is made up as follows:

  • Salary: $1.080 million
  • Prorated Signing Bonus: $2.044 million
  • Prorated Option Bonuses: $3.227 million
  • Workout Bonus: $250,000
  • 2023 Cap Number: $6.601 million

Goedert’s cap number is then sent to jump to $19.521 million in 2024 and 2025. Additionally, when the contract voids in 2026, the Eagles will be left with $5.811 million in dead money. The problem comes for the Eagles is that it is tough for them to move on from Goedert in either 2024 or 2025. If they release Goedert in 2024 or 2025, the dead money situation for the Eagles would be as follows:

  • 2024 Cap Number: $19.521 million
    Pre-June 1 release dead money: $22.353 million
    Post-June 1 release dead money: $11.271 million
  • 2025 Cap Number: $19.521 million
    Pre-June 1 release dead money: $11.082 million
    Post-June 1 release dead money: $5.271 million

With $6 million of the 2024 salary fully guaranteed in March 2023, it would be hard for the Eagles to move on from him in 2024 if the team were so inclined. Additionally, in order to manage his $19.521 million cap number, the Eagles may have to restructure the deal, which would increase the dead money if they were to release him in 2025.
