Pass rusher Emmanuel Ogbah is not changing teams during NFL free agency. After a two-year run with the Miami Dolphins that jump-started his NFL career, Ogbah has agreed to stay with Miami. The edge rusher was No. 31 on PFN’s Top 100 Free Agents list.
Emmanuel Ogbah re-signs with Dolphins
Ogbah agreed to a 4-year, $65 million deal, with $32 million in guarantees, with the Dolphins on Monday, March 14, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Dolphins have been working throughout the winter to bring him back to Miami, where he flourished after a slow start to his career with the Browns and Chiefs.
Getting to know Ogbah
Ogbah, 28, might not be a household name, but in 2021, he put together one of the most complete seasons of any AFC defensive player in 2021. He led the Dolphins in sacks (9.0) and led all NFL front-seven players with 12 pass breakups.
Ogbah (6-4, 275) added 39 pressures, 24 QB hits, 15 hurries, 13 knockdowns, 9 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
That followed up a 2020 season in which he set a career-high with 9 sacks. He also had 42 tackles, 21 quarterback hits, 36 pressures, and 14 hurries in his first two seasons playing in Brian Flores’ aggressive defensive front.
More on Ogbah’s background
Prior to arriving in Miami, Ogbah hadn’t lived up to the promise of his second-round draft pedigree. The Nigeria native who moved to the United States as a child played high school football in Texas before signing with Oklahoma State University.
He was the Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2015 before forgoing his senior season to enter the NFL Draft.
The Browns selected Ogbah with the first pick of the second round, but he had just 12.5 sacks in 40 games with Cleveland. Prior to the final year of his rookie deal, the Browns traded Ogbah to the Chiefs. He appeared in 10 games, starting four, for Kansas City in 2019, recording 5.5 sacks and 11 quarterback hits.
In the ensuing offseason, he became a free agent for the first time, and wisely signed a two-year, $15 million contract with Miami. Over the course of his six-season NFL career, Ogbah has made a total of $21.7 million.
