2022 NFL Combine Preview: Defensive Backs

Here is a look at some of the defensive backs scheduled to work out today.

Tariq Woolen, CB, UTSA

I’ve heard for a while now Tariq Woolen will be the fastest man at the Combine. Word is he could officially get under the 4.25s barrier, and he’s been running in the low 4.2s during training. Woolen’s a sensational athlete and former receiver whose draft grade will be transformed after Sunday’s workout.

Kalon Barnes, CB, Baylor

The wider media have tabbed Kalon Barnes as the guy who’ll run the fastest at the Combine. He has a track background, and as expressed to me by someone from his team, Barnes “just has a different gear.” Expect Barnes to run somewhere in the 4.2s — watch both his 10 and 20-yard splits.

Nick Cross, S, Maryland

Nick Cross could be the guy who surprises everyone. I’m told he’ll be the fastest safety at the Combine and time in the low 4.3s, possibly even into the high 4.2s. Cross is presently the No. 2 safety on my board and graded as a second-round pick.

Bryan Cook, S, Cincinnati

Bryan Cook suffered a shoulder labrum injury during the first week of November and won’t work out at the Combine. Cook chose to play through it rather than cut his senior campaign short. He stayed on the field through the Bearcats’ playoff appearance against Alabama, after which he had it repaired. Expect Cook to be cleared for a full return to play shortly after the draft.
