The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had bad news coming out of their bye week as WR Chris Godwin missed practice with a foot injury on Wednesday. With the Buccaneers having hoped to get other parts of their offense back in Week 10, the potential loss of another weapon is a hammer blow. Let’s take a look at Godwin’s injury and whether he might be available in Week 10.
Chris Godwin returned to practice Friday with a foot injury
Bruce Arians announced on Wednesday that Godwin was dealing with a foot injury, and his status for Sunday was uncertain. Arians said the Buccaneers would take a wait-and-see approach. Godwin was listed as a “Did Not Participate” on Wednesday and Thursday. Godwin was seen at the open portion of practice Friday but is expected to be considered a limited participant. It is looking likely he will carry a questionable or doubtful tag into Sunday and will travel with the team to Washington.
Godwin is coming off his two best performances this season
This injury comes at a frustrating time for Godwin. Tampa’s wide receiver is playing on the franchise tag in 2021 and is hoping to cash in as a free agent this offseason. Godwin is on pace for 106 receptions and 1,400 receiving yards this season. The last two games have seen him rack up a total of 251 receiving yards on 16 receptions from 23 targets while scoring 2 touchdowns.
This injury could not have come at a more frustrating time. With Antonio Brown not practicing with an ankle injury, Godwin could have been in line for another big game. He is emphasizing how important he can be to an offense. But after missing six games in the past two seasons, missing more time with injury would be a dangerous knock for the receiver to carry into the offseason.
The Buccaneers have major injury woes among their pass-catching options
The news that Godwin did not practice is yet another key offensive name potentially missing this week. Rob Gronkowski was absent from practice Wednesday after suffering back spasms in Week 8. Gronk may miss this week, and the same is true of Brown.

While Brown is not expected to play in Week 10 against the Washington Football Team, there was good news this week. Greg Auman of The Athletic tweeted that Brown was spotted at practice not wearing a walking boot. That’s a good sign we might see Brown back sooner rather than later.
How’s the rest of Tampa’s WR depth shaping up?
More good news for the Buccaneers came: Scotty Miller returned to practice. The Buccaneers still have a 21-day window with which to activate him, but it’s the start of Tampa Bay getting their receiving weapons back to full strength.
Ahead of the Week 10 game against Washington, the Buccaneers added veteran WR Breshad Perriman to their practice squad. If Miller, Godwin, and Brown are all absent this week, we could see Perriman elevated from the practice squad in Week 10. The other receivers on the roster for the Buccaneers, besides Mike Evans, are Tyler Johnson and Jaelon Darden. Both could figure to see expanded roles if Godwin and Brown are inactive this week.
