‘Just the Beginning of a Very Embarrassing Night’ — FSU Fans Rip Mike Norvell’s ‘Noles After Power Outage

FSU fans are expecting a beatdown by SMU on primetime and trolled Mike Norvell's squad for the embarrassing power outage pregame.

The Florida State Seminoles were set for some Labor Day action against the No. 19 SMU Mustangs until the power in Doak Campbell Stadium stopped working. The Seminoles haven’t had much go their way over the last few years, and tonight’s pregame power struggles are no different.

FSU’s fans took the chance to release their frustrations on the head coach, Mike Norvell, and their worries for tonight.

FSU Fans Rip the Seminoles for Power Outage

Florida State has struggled over the last few years, and Mike Norvell is on the hot seat. Seminoles fans are worried that tonight might be a long night against a tough SMU team, and the power outage adds another layer to their potential embarrassment.

“Nah…as an FSU fan. We broke. Hope this is just the beginning of a very embarrassing night that forces the admins hand,” said one fan.

FSU fans aren’t proud to be supporters of their team at the moment. They won two games in 2024 and five games in 2025. They are disgusted with the standard of their program and are waiting for it to decide to move on from Norvell.

The fans had jokes about why the power went out, because they are trying to save up to buy out Norvell and kick-start a new era of Florida State football.

“Now we know how fsu is cutting cost to pay Norvells buyout,” said one fan.

“FSU trying to buyout their coach but can’t pay the light bill,” added another fan.

The Seminoles didn’t have any issues with their stadium’s power last week when they beat New Mexico State. Right before tonight’s game, the lights went out, resulting in an indefinite delay.

The players went back into the locker room. Norvell and SMU’s head coach, Rhett Lashlee, agreed on a 10-minute warm-up once the game resumes. That didn’t stop the clowning on the Seminoles, though.

“FSU is so poor their stadium doesn’t even have power,” an SMU fan chimed in.

“FSU so poverty they can’t even pay the light bill,” said one fan.

Florida State has to improve if they want to give SMU a good fight. They didn’t look particularly good against the New Mexico State Aggies in Week 0, their season opener. If they play like that again, Norvell’s job security will once again be in danger, and the Seminoles will get plenty of criticism.

It’s not going to get easier for them next week. If they get embarrassed tonight like FSU fans are expecting, they have to travel to Alabama in Week 3 and could be headed for a brutal beatdown in Tuscaloosa. But for now, the Seminoles have to get the power on first, then worry about putting in a good showing against SMU, and then they can set their sights on Alabama.
