‘Lane Kiffin Is All Bark and No Bite’ — Super Bowl Champion Takes Dig at LSU HC’s Controversial Decisions

Super Bowl champion criticizes Lane Kiffin’s LSU decisions as the Tigers face an SEC battle over roster rules.

College football’s rules are being tested in ways that would have been difficult to imagine a few years ago, particularly as programs operate more like professional organizations. LSU coach Lane Kiffin has found himself at the center of that debate after making an unusual roster move involving players with recent NFL opportunities.

The decision has drawn scrutiny from across the sport, and now a Super Bowl champion has weighed in.

Chase Daniel Takes Aim at Lane Kiffin Amid LSU Controversy

Former NFL quarterback and Super Bowl champion Chase Daniel took aim at LSU coach Kiffin after he and other analysts started discussing the controversy surrounding the Tigers on SEC Nation. Daniel reshared the video on X and made it clear that he believes the dispute points to a much larger problem in college football.

Daniel questioned how the sport can function with professional-level operations while still relying on rules that do not resemble the structure of the NFL.

Speaking on “SEC Nation,” he said, “It’s just another example of college football trying to operate in a professional environment. These are not professionals. This is not the NFL. We have something called the CBA, Collective bargaining agreement, where there are set rules and regulations, and standards, and expectations for what is meant.”

The ESPN analyst then connected that issue directly to Kiffin’s situation, arguing that the absence of a comparable system leaves college football vulnerable to disputes between coaches, conferences, schools, and courts.

Daniel added, “There are no set rules. It’s still the Wild Wild West. That’s why I have a real problem with where college football is headed,” before arguing that the sport must decide whether it wants athletes treated as professionals or amateurs.

Kiffin’s roster decisions have created a turbulent situation in college football after LSU recruited former college players Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris. The two players have briefly entered the NFL and participated in training camps before being cut.

The SEC subsequently moved to prohibit teams from adding players with professional football experience, while Louisiana court action allowed the LSU players to continue practicing as the legal fight developed.

That conflict ultimately pushed the SEC to sue LSU, its administration, and Kiffin in federal court, turning a roster dispute into a larger fight over conference authority and college football’s rules.

Daniel backed his central argument while taking a direct shot at Kiffin. He wrote on X, “Lane Kiffin is ALL bark and no bite. But the bigger issue is this: college football can’t operate in a professional environment without professional rules. The only real way to fix this? A CBA and a clear set of rules that everyone has to follow.”

According to the latest development, the Tigers have not added the two players to their finalized active roster for the 2026 season. Still, Daniel sees the LSU situation as part of a bigger problem in college football. Until the rules become clearer, disputes like this are likely to keep coming.
