LeBron James is known for commanding a room, but his latest off-court gig has left college sports fans scratching their heads. The 22-time All-Star recently participated in Ohio State’s marketing campaign to kick off the Buckeyes’ 2026 football season.
However, the internet didn’t buy this burst of scarlet-and-gray enthusiasm. While the video’s production quality was top-tier, some reactions across social media did not waste time mocking the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
LeBron James Gets Roasted Online After Narrating Ohio State’s 2026 Hype Video
On September 3, the Ohio State Buckeyes posted an 82-second promotional clip titled “The Trailer 01: The Bell Tolls,” featuring LeBron James as the narrator for the Buckeyes’ battle cry, set to Metallica’s iconic heavy metal track, “For Whom the Bell Tolls.”
“In old Ohio, there’s a team that’s known throughout the land, whose name is met with reverence and an understanding of one thing: the Bell Tolls,” narrated James.
“Every new beginning is born from another reckoning, a judgment of toughness, of fight. Nothing is given; everything is earned. Once these gates close, there’s no more options. Stand before us, woe to the vanquished.”

The hype video is released ahead of the Buckeyes’ Week 1 matchup against the Ball State Cardinals at Ohio Stadium on Saturday, September 5, marking the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
The game remains crucial as the Buckeyes enter the contest with a 26-game winning streak in season openers, the longest active streak in the country. They are favored by 50.5 points and, along with the home-crowd advantage and roster depth, are viewed as the favorites to win this game.
A popular basketball news and media account, Legion Hoops, shared the video, stating, “LeBron James is the narrator for Ohio State’s football hype video. This is legendary.”
Despite the intense visuals and historic backdrop, fans immediately pointed out the irony of the Akron-born legend leading the charge for the OSU football promotional clip.
One user poked fun at his shifting college allegiances, claiming, “I thought he’s a Duke fan, I’m confused.”

“I guess Akron football not relevant enough for him [expletive] xhio state and LeBron,” posted another user, taking a dig at his local Northeast Ohio roots and how he bypassed nearby programs.
Calling out the partnership, one observer commented, “LeBron needs to stop with all the Ohio (expletive) as he clearly doesn’t care.”
Whether it’s switching NBA teams or participating in marketing campaigns, King James remains a lightning rod for hot takes.
While Ohio State fans hope the promo leads to a national championship run this 2026-27 season, social media has once again proven that nobody gets a free pass, not even Ohio’s most famous basketball icon.
