Dak Prescott enters the 2026 fantasy football season commanding an offensive machine that you can implicitly trust, even if his personal rushing production is nowhere close to what it used to be. The primary driver of his current fantasy value is elite, high-volume passing consistency. In fact, Prescott has thrown for 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns in each of his past four seasons with over 12 games played.
Should You Draft Dak Prescott in Fantasy Football?
As of early September, Prescott has an ADP of 77, but on PFN’s rankings he’s only 96th overall. His projected points per game is 17.3, and his positional ranking is QB1.
We know the story with Prescott. He’s a dependable, high-volume passer with a steady status and one of the league’s most high-powered passing attacks, and he has six separate seasons in his career in which he’s finished as a top-10 QB in PFN impact scoring. We know the efficiency, the analytic strength, is definitely there, and that includes a sixth-place finish just this past year in 2025.
Last year he also generated 0.22 EPA per dropback, which was fifth in the NFL. He led the league in completions, was second in attempts, and third in passing yards. That’s the moral of the story with Prescott. Volume, volume, volume. On the passing phase, you know you’re going to get that.
In all of the past four seasons in which he’s played at least 16 games, meaning when he stays healthy, he’s eclipsed 4,400 passing yards. He had 10 weekly performances last year of 20-plus points. This year, he keeps CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens as the central components of the team’s elite passing attack from 2025.
The team also returns all five starters on an offensive line that ranked top 12 in PFN’s OL impact scoring the past four seasons and was a top-10 unit for three of those seasons as well. The defense has also improved with Christian Parker now at the helm after being the 32nd-ranked unit in 2025. But there are still question marks and young players at all three levels, so it’s reasonable to expect that Prescott will still be relied upon yet again to keep the team competitive working in negative game scripts.
Usually when you have a QB who’s a volume passer, it’s better to have a worse defense because then you’re playing from behind a lot more often. I don’t think the Cowboys will be doing it quite as often as they did last year. Their defense was atrocious last year, particularly the passing defense, but I still think it’s a young, up-and-coming unit. It’s going to take its lumps, and Prescott and the offense will benefit from that from a statistical standpoint as well.
Rushing will never be a big part of Dak’s game. He’s totaled just 7 rushing touchdowns over the past five years and eclipsed 200 rushing yards just once over that span. But as a true high-volume passer with a reliable, cerebral, tough-as-nails skill set in the pocket and an elite weapon score, Prescott can be counted on for potentially top-five passing production as long as he stays healthy. That’s the big variable with him.
If you prefer rushing threats at QB, Prescott simply is not for you from an archetypal standpoint. But if you just want steady scoring, Prescott is an excellent value in both redraft and superflex leagues.

Dak Prescott’s Week 1 Fantasy Outlook
Analysis provided by PFN Analyst Kyle Soppe.
These two teams met in one of the more exciting games last season as they went back and forth in Week 2 with 24 points being totaled in the final three minutes before the game was decided in overtime.
Do we get more of the same this time around?
I’m never going to project 77 points to be scored, and it should be noted that Russell Wilson was the QB going shot-for-shot with Prescott on that afternoon, but these remain two teams that want to put heat on opposing defenses.
In that game, Prescott didn’t get sucked into the flow of the game, instead opting to get the ball in the hands of his elite teammates and let them work. His 6.7-yard aDOT was his fourth-lowest mark of the season (16.3% below his season average), and that promoted high-end efficiency for his top target (CeeDee Lamb turned 11 targets into 9 catches and 112 yards).
This was before he was fully comfortable with George Pickens and they knew what they had in Javonte Williams (3.6 yards per carry in the season opener with none of his 17 touches gaining more than 11 yards).
It was also before Dexter Lawrence took his talents from the front of this New York defense to Cincinnati. We know that Jaxson Dart isn’t going to back down from a challenge, and while the game environment is a longshot to look the way it did last September, this is one of only a few games where both teams are given a good chance to score 25+ points by the sportsbooks.
I’d bet the “under” on the 10 top-12 finishes that he posted last year this season, but I see no reason why he can’t open 2026 one-for-one with a highly efficient effort as a road favorite against a defense that can be had.
