Pablo Torre has broken his silence on the NBA’s historic ruling on its near-yearlong investigation into his explosive allegations that the Los Angeles Clippers circumvented the salary cap to appease Kawhi Leonard.
Calling it the “largest punishment in league history,” Torre reacted to Clippers owner Steve Ballmer’s one-year suspension and the franchise’s staggering $30 million fine and forfeiture of five first-round draft picks after secret side deals unraveled.

What started as a free-agency heist back in 2019 has officially exploded into the biggest salary cap scandal in professional sports history.
The Clippers sought to build a championship dynasty around Leonard. Instead, they ended up in the middle of an off-the-books scheme, and the NBA just dropped an unprecedented hammer.
To keep the two-time NBA champion happy without breaking official salary cap limits on paper, top Clippers leadership facilitated secret endorsement deals through outside companies doing business with the team.
The biggest piece was the $28 million Aspiration deal, which Torre reported as a “no-show” endorsement contract, alongside arrangements with three other team sponsors.
After investigative journalist Torre exposed the side deals last September, the NBA launched an independent probe led by law firm Wachtell Lipton. Nearly a year after Torre laid out the issues, he was vindicated by the official findings. On Wednesday, it was revealed that Clippers executives knew the rules and violated them anyway.
Reacting to the final report on his show, Torre didn’t hold back and dubbed it:
“The largest punishment in the history of the NBA.”
Torre added: “It was unclear would we get an accounting of some of the accounting and some of the paper trail, which was allegedly — well, according to the NBA’s finding, it is settled — the paper trail of emails that was set up to deliberately mislead people in the future.”

The sanctions handed down by commissioner Adam Silver hit every level of the organization, with Ballmer handed a full one-year suspension from all league and team activities for knowingly helping Leonard obtain improper off-court income.
As discussed on Torre’s show, this isn’t just skipping owners’ meetings. Ballmer cannot attend a single game, practice, or league event for an entire year.
Clippers president of business operations Gillian Zucker also came off brutally in the Wachtell report, receiving a one-year suspension without pay for being “primarily and directly culpable” and for giving false and misleading statements to investigators.
Meanwhile, president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank received a six-month suspension without pay. As Torre pointed out, despite Frank’s earlier public claim that “everyone knows the rules,” investigators proved he broke them anyway.
With the probe officially closed, the ripple effects will be felt across the NBA for years. Leonard is required to pay a $700,000 fine. However, the seven-time All-Star avoided a suspension, paving the way for his paused trade back to the Toronto Raptors to be cleared.
In his official statement regarding the matter, he blamed lapses in judgment by his inner circle, which also led to his manager, his uncle Dennis Robertson, receiving a five-year NBA ban.
For the Clippers, the road ahead is dark. They have had to forfeit five first-round picks from 2029 through 2033. However, in a statement, they said they “vehemently reject” the NBA’s findings and intend to challenge the penalties.
