Daejon Love is a name that has recently made headlines. Yet, it’s not for anything that he’s ever done on a football field or the basketball court.
In fact, Love became notorious for his adjacency to sports. In essence, Love built a fake social media presence as an NFL player, specifically with the San Francisco 49ers. His goal was to gain financial windfalls by presumably bilking women. All told, Love conned his victims out of around $1.3 million.
Tyrese Haliburton Reacts to Daejon Love’s NFL Scheme
Love’s story became the fuel of social media intrigue and curiosity. Granted, people swindling others is not new. Yet, the level and depth of the performance intrigued many. On Tuesday, Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton took to social media to deliver his opinion regarding the situation.
Haliburton hasn’t played since the 2025 NBA Finals, where he ruptured his Achilles. His rehab appears to be on track, and he hopes to return for the 2026-27 season opener. Yet, with downtime arrives the time to scroll. As a result, the Love incident and timeline captivated the two-time All-Star.

Before working on his false NFL identity, Love bounced around dating apps, using backstories such as being the heir to a Swiss fortune and being a real estate mogul. In 2022, he created a fake profile on Instagram.
Love embraced the new identity as an undrafted wide receiver. For instance, he posted numerous videos of him working out while wearing San Francisco gear. He went as far as to post media of himself standing next to a Lamborghini, implying that it belonged to him.
Deeper than that were fake contract signings and Google searches as Love pursued romantic relationships with numerous women. Love, along with his accomplice, convinced women to invest in a scheme that never paid off, blocking them when they began to realize the scheme was a lie.
On August 24, federal agents arrested Love and the co-conspirator at the Boise airport. Now, in federal custody, the duo faces an array of charges, including wire fraud.
Meanwhile, Haliburton is preparing to get back onto the court at the start of the campaign. He returns to an Eastern Conference that has changed significantly. The New York Knicks won the NBA championship, while both the Miami Heat and the Philadelphia 76ers have made multiple major moves.
It remains to be seen whether Haliburton will be able to quickly return to his former levels and once again lead the Pacers.
