Jonathan Kuminga is the newest member of the Minnesota Timberwolves after signing a two-year deal with the organization in free agency. Some may argue that’s an interesting landing spot given the city’s location and market.
Kuminga’s agent, Aaron Turner, recently appeared on “Run It Back” and spoke with former NBA star Chandler Parsons. The agent discussed his client’s decision to ultimately choose the Timberwolves over other teams, most notably the Los Angeles Lakers.
Yet, the discussion after the fact has more to do with Turner than Kuminga, as a former NBA player chimed in with a rather harsh take.

Former Denver Nuggets star Ty Lawson was not thrilled with Turner during the interview and made it clear with a strongly worded tweet.
“Johnathan Kuminga needs pack his agent up immediately.. send that ‘you’re fired’ letter immediately… There’s no way he jumped on camera like this lol,” Lawson wrote.

Lawson was seemingly calling out Turner for his casual appearance during the interview when he mentioned how the agent “jumped on camera like this.”
A former No. 18 overall pick by the Timberwolves in 2009, Lawson was later traded to the Nuggets and went on to enjoy a long NBA and overseas career.
Meanwhile, some users commenting on Lawson’s post seemed to suggest that Lawson, like others, was criticizing Turner because Kuminga joined the Wolves rather than the Lakers.
“Now he’s in a situation where he can bet on himself; he can put himself in a spot where ‘Okay, I can now dictate what happens to me, I can have some level of control over what moves forward,'” Turner said, detailing Kuminga’s decision.
This comes as Kuminga looks to rebuild his reputation after being traded by the Golden State Warriors to the Atlanta Hawks last season.
Kuminga is a former No. 7 overall pick by the Warriors in 2021, who was part of the championship-winning team in 2022. Still only 23 years old, he is still on the rise toward his peak potential.
One fair argument against Turner is that he was only able to get Kuminga a two-year deal for just over $12 million. The relatively low number only hurts Turner’s case in the eyes of Lawson and those who think he is unprofessional.
Regardless of the criticism surrounding Kuminga’s decision, the 23-year-old, who has averaged 12.5 ppg and 4.2 rpg, will look to turn a new leaf in his relatively young NBA career.
Suiting up for the Wolves this upcoming season gives him a chance to play alongside Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball while joining one of the league’s stronger defensive groups.
