‘It Was a Battle’ – Fever Star Caitlin Clark Shares Crucial Update After Back Injury Struggles

Caitlin Clark opens up about her physical condition after a challenging sophomore season as the Fever star continues to find her rhythm.

The Indiana Fever picked up their 26th win of the season on Friday after beating the Connecticut Sun 111-91. The game was also Caitlin Clark’s 35th appearance of the season, and after the final buzzer, the Fever star opened up about how she currently feels physically after a difficult last season.

Caitlin Clark’s Revelation About Her Health

During the postgame interview, “The Athletic” journalist James Boyd asked Clark how she feels from a physical standpoint while playing in the league at this stage of the season.

The Fever guard revealed that she feels in incredible shape at this point in the WNBA season.

“I feel really good… I feel probably the best I’ve ever felt in my career, and from a confidence standpoint too. Obviously, your rookie year is a different kind of beast when you’re trying to figure out the league and figure out where you fit on a team, and still do the things you can do,” Clark said during the interview.

After dealing with several setbacks last season, being able to feel healthy and play consistently has clearly been important for Clark.

“And then obviously, I lost my second year, so this is really only my second year in this league. I mean, I’ve only played like maybe 80-plus games in this league. I feel like at times I can be a little lost to everybody in the outside world.”

“I think you feel like I’ve been in this league for a while, like I’m still kind of finding my footing and still remembering, like, what I can do and who I am and what I can bring to this team, and just having that confidence about me and allowing that to be impactful to the rest of my team. So just continuing to do that, I think like it was a battle for the first 20 games for me to really find my confidence again, mostly in my body. Now, I feel like I’m just playing. I’m not thinking. I’m just like, ‘next play, next play, next play,’ and that’s when I play my best basketball,” Clark added during the interview.

Clark missed 31 games last year because of leg, quad, and groin injuries that just wouldn’t let up. Before all those setbacks hit, she was averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and five rebounds a game. But the injuries piled up fast, and it turned into a frustrating year for her and the Fever.

This season is telling a different story. Clark is currently averaging 22.5 points, 8.4 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game. Friday’s game against the Sun was proof that she is back in her usual form. She scored 34 points and dished out 12 assists in just 34 minutes on the floor.

Moreover, it’s not just a one-game thing. Clark has scored over 20 points in three straight games now. She had 21 points against the Liberty, followed that up with a 37-point night against the Chicago Sky, and then put up 34 points against the Sun.

As for Friday’s game itself, it didn’t start smoothly. Indiana actually fell behind by nine points after the first quarter. They found their rhythm, and by halftime they had a 15-point lead into the break. They then scored 53 points in the second half alone to close out the win comfortably.
