‘Setting Yourself Up for a Failure’ — Super Bowl Champion Skeptical of Michael Strahan’s New Fatherhood at 54

T.J. Ward questions whether Michael Strahan's packed TV schedule could complicate becoming a father again at 54.

For most people, becoming a father again at 54 would be enough to rearrange the calendar. Michael Strahan is doing it while balancing one of the busiest television schedules in sports, and former Denver Broncos safety T.J. Ward is not convinced the combination will be easy.

T.J. Ward Questions Whether Strahan Will Have Enough Time

TMZ reported Thursday that Strahan and longtime girlfriend Kayla Quick quietly welcomed a baby girl earlier in 2026. The child is Strahan’s fifth, but his first in more than two decades.

During a discussion on “Speakeasy” about the news, Ward said his concern was less about Strahan’s age than the amount of time his television career demands.

“I feel like Strahan is not only setting his child up for failure. Not literal failure, but missed time with him because he is on every show that’s on TV,” Ward said.

Strahan is not literally on every show, but Ward’s larger point comes from a real workload. The Pro Football Hall of Famer co-anchors “Good Morning America,” appears on “FOX NFL Sunday,” and hosts ABC’s “The $100,000 Pyramid,” keeping him busy across weekday mornings, NFL weekends, and primetime television.

“He on daytime TV. He on soap operas. He on sports shows. He traveling doing this and doing that,” Ward said.

Ward then turned from Strahan’s schedule to the decision to have another child.

“And then you kind of setting yourself up for a failure, player, because you having a baby with a 36-year-old,” Ward said.

He went further by speculating, without presenting evidence, that having the child was Quick’s idea and could provide “future security.” Ward also imagined a future breakup in which Strahan could pay substantial monthly support while seeing his daughter less often. Those comments were Ward’s personal speculation, not reported facts about Strahan and Quick.

Michael Strahan Starts Over With His Fifth Child

Strahan already has four adult children. He shares daughter Tanita and son Michael Jr. with former wife Wanda Hutchins, along with twins Isabella and Sophia from his marriage to Jean Muggli. TMZ reported that Strahan and Quick have been together since 2015 and have largely kept their relationship private.

His youngest previous children are now 21, making this a return to the newborn stage after a lengthy gap. Strahan also became a grandfather in 2024 when Tanita welcomed a son.

Ward made sure to clarify that “failure” did not mean he expected anything bad for Strahan’s daughter. His argument was about missed time and whether Strahan’s commitments could eventually get in the way of being present.

Strahan has already raised four children while navigating an NFL career and his transition into television. Ward’s skepticism is whether beginning that process again at 54, with his schedule as crowded as ever, creates a problem that money and career success cannot solve.
