There seems to be no end in sight to the transgender debate around the WNBA.
After it emerged that Enes Kanter and Royce White had been reportedly banned from the 2027 WNBA Draft, the former Boston Celtics center made multiple public appearances to make his stance clear, even inviting Cathy Engelbert to a ‘peace summit’ moderated by Caitlyn Jenner.
With no response from the W, Kanter has now sent a letter demanding answers to five major questions he deems integral to the ongoing debate. Needless to say, social media responded quickly.
WNBA World Reacts to Enes Kanter’s Letter to WNBA
While considerable discourse around Kanter has suggested that he is merely seeking publicity, some of the relevant questions are in his letter.
Per Jon Root, Kanter has given the league five business days to respond to his questions, which appear to seek an explanation for the basis of his ejection and the apparent selective enforcement of league and arena policies.
“1. Identify the policy, rule, directive, or instruction relied upon in treating certain spectators, including me, differently when we express a viewpoint that appears unpopular with the WNBA.”

In his list of questions, Kanter wanted the league to preserve all material pertaining to his ejection from the game between the Chicago Sky and the Indiana Fever, investigate Natasha Cloud’s conduct, and “provide a full refund of the cost” of Kanter’s courtside tickets.
One user claimed that Kanter was forced into the situation: “Kanter only approached the court when he was provoked by that crazy player.”

Another WNBA observer remarked that the league is dodging questions: “If there’s one thing the @WNBA is good at, it’s avoiding answering questions. That’s why this league is in shambles.”

One user went on to call out what they felt was hypocrisy, writing, “If he was wearing let’s say a blm shirt or pro-trans. Nothing would’ve happened. If you go against their hypothetical ‘dei’ narrative. They’ll use that against you. Funny. They/them type are all about DEI ……. But! There’s always a but/if with they/thems.”
However, another fan was unhappy with Kanter’s demands and issued a scathing rant: “You as a [expletive] spectator are not allowed to taunt and harass players on the court in literally any [expletive] sport, and you sure as hell are not allowed to charge the court 😭😭😭This man is playing victim so hard”
Another fan saw the humor in the situation: “4. Provide a full refund of the cost of my courtside tickets. Well, now, number four is just being petty. 😂😂”
The Chicago ownership has already made its stance clear by banning Kanter from attending future games at Wintrust Arena.
However, Engelbert and the W leadership continue to face growing pressure to lay down clear eligibility guidelines to prevent this sideshow from overshadowing the season as the playoffs approach.
