The NFL offseason is never short of major storylines. Scandals, allegations, and some wild developments have all become a part and parcel of the football summer. This year, too, has been no different, as the league has been rife with some major controversies.
However, with the season right around the corner, the San Francisco 49ers have landed in trouble as their owner, Jed York, was arrested earlier this week. Now, one insider believes that the complications might not be as severe as initially assumed.
Jed York Could Walk Away Relatively Unscathed
The entire situation came about when York was charged with misdemeanor counts of engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools. However, as part of the plea agreement in the case, one of those charges was reduced to a misdemeanor of disorderly conduct.
So far, there hasn’t been a direct response from the 49ers or York’s legal team. Instead, the team confirmed, “as this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time,” even as the NFL is reviewing the matter.
However, Mike Florio of NBC Sports doesn’t see the veteran owner having any major repercussions from the arrest. Instead, on “Pro Football Talk,” he explained why the situation wasn’t a serious problem for York, even if the NFL decided to suspend him.

“There’s a basic imbalance that is baked into how a suspension works,” Florio said.
Then he made a comparison between how players and owners are impacted by a suspension for the same amount of time.

“If a player gets suspended for four games, he loses four game checks,” Florio added. “Also, the team has the ability to recover from him a proportionate amount of the signing bonus that applies to those four games. So he loses everything he was going to make. He goes from 100 to 0.”

On the other hand, York is not going to face any such problems, as Florio continued, “You suspend an owner for four weeks, the NFL doesn’t keep four weeks of TV revenue. The NFL doesn’t keep four weeks of ticket sales. The NFL doesn’t pick your pocket, at least as it relates to how much money you’re making.”
Instead, all York would have to face would be a fine depending on the verdict of the investigation by the league, as per their conduct policy.
Florio concluded by saying, “You pay a separate fine, which is peanuts in comparison to what you’re otherwise making.”
It remains to be seen what the NFL decides to do on this matter. But as things currently stand, York has to spend a day in jail for each of the crimes he’s been charged with.
