The WNBA has become a sore subject in the media. Between the on-court criticisms and the heavily debated trans-athlete issue, the league is in hot water.
As tensions rise, particularly after former NBA player Enes Kanter announced his plans to enter the 2027 WNBA draft to challenge the league’s gender eligibility guidelines, Las Vegas Aces forward-center Brianna Turner is now calling out the folly behind the situation.
Brianna Turner Raises Enes Kanter Issue on Social Media
Turner responded to a 2023 video that resurfaced on X of Kanter speaking to Fox News. In the clip, he mentioned changing his name to “Eneshia” and brought up the topic of playing in the WNBA.
In response to the video, Turner posted, “Premeditated narrative from 3 years ago. The trans panic grift guarantees nonstop publicity and attention from certain national ‘news’ outlets, while driving attention away from actual issues plaguing the U.S.”

Turner is a well-respected player, but she has a history of sharing her opinions on social advocacy. As expected, this causes mixed reactions from fans.
The 30-year-old is now in the midst of her eighth WNBA season, but this is only her first campaign playing for the Aces. Turner has also had stints with the Indiana Fever, Chicago Sky, and Phoenix Mercury.
At the time of this writing, Turner is averaging 1.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 0.2 assists per game, while shooting 62.2% from the floor. She has appeared in 36 games this season.
To date, her most productive season was back in 2021 with the Mercury, when she averaged 7.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. She shot 55.4% from the floor. She spent five consecutive seasons with the Phoenix franchise.
Turner is far from the only athlete to speak out on the trans-athlete subject. In fact, Fever guard Sophie Cunningham was the one to initiate such outrage within and around the league. This is when discussions exploded.
Once Cunningham shared her thoughts about wanting to “protect young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men,” the WNBA fanbase erupted, and sides were immediately picked.

Until the WNBA solidifies guidelines and provides more clarity on its gender eligibility policies, it is simply hitting a brick wall. Little progress is truly being made at this point.
As more athletes, public figures, and fans step forward to express their opinions and dismay, tensions are rising rapidly throughout women’s basketball.
