The San Francisco 49ers have arrived at a point where they may have undergone everything that could go wrong under the sun. Call it a curse or bad luck, the Niners would want this to end.
A decade of Super Bowl heartbreaks to a seemingly endless run of injuries. Add to that a fresh and bizarre development: 49ers owner Jed York was arrested, giving NFL fans even more reason to joke.
Fans Bring Up ‘Cursed’ San Francisco As 49ers Owner Jed York Arrested in Ohio
The KRON4 news reported that York was arrested on Sunday “on suspicion of engaging in prostitution in Ohio over the weekend, according to court documents.”
“York, whose legal name is John Edward York, was arrested Sunday in East Palestine, Ohio, by the local police department assisting the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force,” the report said. “He was booked into Columbiana County Jail.”
The report noted that York pleaded no contest to the two misdemeanor charges on Monday.
“A judge sentenced York to one day in jail per each count, which were served concurrently, and ordered him to pay a $150 fine under the disorderly conduct conviction and a $1,000 fine for possessing criminal tools,” the report further added. “A court transaction statement showed the fines have been paid.”

The news was enough to leave NFL fans stunned. Some fans continued the joke that something seems to be going very wrong in San Francisco. “49ers genuinely might be cursed,” one fan wrote.

The others chose to mock the organization and the owner.
“😂😂😂 What a loser franchise,” one said while another brought up the joke of the substation being the cause of the 49ers’ injuries, which has now also caught up with York as well, commenting: “Even the substation got Jed York!”

One fan was stunned by the news, seemingly unable to make sense of the situation and simply posted five words: “This. Wow. What. Huh. WHAT.”

Finally, some amusement on the fines handed out in the case, as with any major personality involved in the NFL scene. Given York’s status as the owner of a franchise worth billions, one fan pointed out the relatively small penalty he was handed:

York has deep ties to the area. The 49ers’ owner grew up around Youngstown, Ohio, and attended Cardinal Mooney High School. He has served as San Francisco’s CEO since 2008 and became the team’s principal owner in 2024.
The 49ers have yet to publicly comment on the situation, according to the report.
