Jannik Sinner earns praise from a fan for a touching gesture after a Monte Carlo training session, despite his US Open withdrawal.

Jannik Sinner has enjoyed a dominant 2026 season but has not played since successfully defending his Wimbledon title in July. A lingering right knee injury forced the World No. 1 to withdraw from the US Open, putting his momentum on hold ahead of the final Grand Slam of the year. Despite the setback, the 25-year-old was recently spotted training in Monte Carlo and taking time to meet fans.

Jannik Sinner Continues Training Amid US Open Withdrawal, Sharing Sweet Moment With Young Fan

Sinner has had a dominant 2026 season, winning six titles and the first five Masters 1000 events of the year in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Rome. He boasts an impressive 44-3 record and successfully defended his Wimbledon title in July, but has been sidelined since then with a right knee injury. The injury first forced him to miss the Montreal and Cincinnati, two key hard-court events ahead of the US Open.

On Friday, he announced his decision to skip the final Grand Slam of the year due to a right knee injury.

“Even though I have been working hard with my team and my medical staff, we have now had to make the difficult decision that I will not be able to compete at the US Open this year,” Sinner stated. He added that he still needs more time to recover after returning to the court in Monte Carlo.

Meanwhile, a video of Sinner from an August 18 practice session was shared on X, showing the Italian back on the court. The fan who posted the clip also praised Sinner’s character with a touching caption:

“Jannik Sinner training today and giving autographs to a little kid! ‘When you’re a champion not only on the court, but off it too. After a tough training session – and probably deciding not to take part in the US Open – you still find the time and the smile for one of your little but greatest fans. Thank you, Jan, you’re truly amazing!!!!’

In Sinner’s absence, Alexander Zverev will be the top seed in New York, while his biggest rival, Carlos Alcaraz, is returning after a four-month injury layoff. The US Open main draw begins on August 30. Sinner’s return date remains unclear, but he will be aiming to make his comeback during the Asian swing in late September.
