‘[Stephanie] White Clearly Doesn’t Have Caitlin [Clark’s] Back’ – WNBA Fans Spot Friction As Fever Succumb to Paige Bueckers’ Wings

The WNBA world went off after seeing Stephanie White and Caitlin Clark have a tense moment during Fever-Wings.

Caitlin Clark and Fever head coach Stephanie White had a tense moment late in the first quarter in their game against the Dallas Wings.

Fans caught this moment, claiming Clark seemingly ignored White during the stoppage of play on the sideline. As a result, some are calling for the Fever to part ways with White as they don’t believe she is capable of leading the franchise to the WNBA championship.

Stephanie White Faces Criticism for Tense Exchange With Caitlin Clark

During the first quarter of Fever-Wings on Thursday, White was attempting to speak to Clark when the latter seemingly turned her back to her and walked away.

Fans on X shared their thoughts on the incident as it went viral on social media. One, in all caps, wrote, “THAT COACH NEEDS TO BE FIRED. WHERE IS THE OWNER OF THIS FRANCHISE? THE INVESTORS??? FIRE THIS COACH, SHE HAS ALREADY RUINED THE ENTIRE LEAGUE.”

“Can you blame her? White clearly doesn’t have Caitlin’s back,” wrote one user.

Another said, “She needs to go. I’m surprised Caitlin has even had success in that environment I’m starting to see why last season was such a disaster.”

They continued by writing, “You would think the fact that CC hid her horrible coaching ability, she would do more to empower her… but no, she’s usually benching her in the first quarter just as she’s about to get her rhythm going.”

“Stephanie White needs to go out of her way to say something about Caitlin Clark getting hacked. With that said, CC struggled. No surprise given schedule,” wrote Fever writer Robin Lundberg.

Clark had a fairly subpar game by her high standards, especially on the defensive end of the floor. The 24-year-old scored just 10 points on 4-of-15 shooting as the Fever’s winning streak came to an end.

Satire account ‘BrickCenter’ also shared the video, adding, “Caitlin Clark and her coach hate each other.”

In the past, Clark has stood up for Coach White. During an interview with Malika Andrews in June 2026, she said she thinks of herself as an “easy to coach” player and that White would think the same.

“I love Coach Steph. What I love about her the most is that her competitive fire is the same exact as mine. We’ll go at it, but at the end of the day, we love each other so much, and that’s what makes it fun.
