A.J. Brown’s arrival in New England has already drawn plenty of interest around Drake Maye and the Patriots’ offense. Brown’s history with the Philadelphia Eagles makes the matchup even more intriguing, especially with the Eagles preparing to face their former star receiver.
However, despite the history, Jalen Hurts is not rushing to give Maye a crash course on his new target.
Jalen Hurts Keeps His Advice on A.J. Brown to Himself
Hurts was asked whether he had any advice for Maye, who held the top spot in PFN’s QB Impact Rankings for 2025, on getting the most out of Brown.
The Eagles quarterback did not see much reason to offer guidance, pointing instead to what Maye has already accomplished.
“I think Drake has had a lot of success already,” Hurts said. “So I don’t know what my advice would do. I just think he needs to continue the progression that he’s on.”
Hurts added that Maye has already done plenty early in his career and expects that growth to continue. “I mean, he’s already accomplished so many great things in a short time, and I expect more great things to come from him,” Hurts said.

The timing of the question is important because Brown has become a key part of Maye’s offense since arriving in New England. The Patriots acquired the veteran wide receiver from Philadelphia in June, sending the Eagles a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round selection.
Brown also reunited with Mike Vrabel, who coached him during his time with the Tennessee Titans. Now, his focus has shifted toward building a productive relationship with Maye and learning Josh McDaniels’ offense.
This connection was on full display when the Patriots and Eagles held a joint practice. Maye went 15-for-18 on passes during the 11-on-11 periods, while Brown caught four passes thrown his way during full-team competitive periods.
The pair also connected on several important plays, including a deep crosser and a difficult sideline throw. Their work offered an early indication of what New England hopes Brown can bring to its passing game.

Brown Makes His Position Clear Before Facing the Eagles
Brown has also made it clear that he has no interest in dwelling on his Philadelphia chapter. After the joint practice, he addressed his former team’s fans while making his focus clear.
“What is my message to Eagles fans? I love you and I’m not looking in the past,” Brown said. “That game [against the 49ers], no, I didn’t play my best, but I’m not going backwards. It doesn’t exist. And that’s the last question I’m gonna answer about the past.”
