The Giants have been looking for some additional juice to their offense. New York went to the running back market and brought in Najee Harris for a visit.
Now, Harris has signed with the Giants, creating a new dynamic in the New York backfield. Take a look at how the NFL world feels about Harris joining the Giants.
NFL World Reacts to Najee Harris Signing with the Giants
Harris is headed to New York to join a backfield with Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy Jr., and Devin Singletary.
The addition of Harris creates some uncertainty about how this unit might shake out by Week 1. Skattebo is likely the starter after his solid rookie season.
One fan believes that Harris will slot in as the backup behind Skattebo.
“RB2 lock in!” said one fan.
There was a lot of drama after preseason Week 1 as a missed block by Tracy led to Jaxson Dart getting leveled and sent to the blue tent for examination. Fans immediately guessed that the Giants might look for an RB as a result.
“Oh lawd here we go. Figured this was gonna happen after preseason Week 1,” said another fan.

Fantasy football podcaster Michael Hauff chimed in on the missed block, too.

“Highly publicized missed block by Tyrone Tracy and here comes Najee Harris to the Giants,” said Hauff.
While many fans thought this move came as a result of the missed block, Giants insider Jordan Ranaan shut that down, noting that Harris’ visit with the Giants was set before they even stepped on the field for their preseason opener.

For some in the NFL world, this move just doesn’t make much sense, given that the team already has three running backs with clear NFL experience.
One fan speculated on multiple angles for this move, whether it’s a concern about Skattebo’s health, a question of Tracy’s ability, or a question of what Harris actually has to offer.

“Not sure what to make of this, for all parties. Is this a sign that the Giants are still a little worried about Skattebo’s recovery?? Are they completely out on Tracy?? Also, Harris tore his Achilles. How effective can he be this season??” said one fan.
But on the flip side, Harris fits the style of offense that John Harbaugh loves to run. With the Ravens, he ran an offense that dominated teams with physical football on the ground. Adding Harris is a step in that direction for New York.
“The Giants want to play physical football. That’s the John Harbaugh way. They now have Cam Skattebo & Najee Harris,” said ESPN’s Sam Block.

“John Harbaugh is building the biggest team possible. Good additional backup for Cam Skattebo who could bring a similar style,” said one NFL media member.
Skattebo and Harris are hard runners. They can run through the trenches and pick up extra yards with their physicality.
These two are plenty athletic on top of that, with the ability to make defenders miss with lateral quickness as well. Harris’ NFL pedigree is hard to deny, with four straight 1,000+ rushing-yard seasons while in Pittsburgh.
It’s a low-risk move for the Giants, and it really can’t hurt them to add another body to the RB room.

“I love this contract. No risk at all for the Giants. If Najee looks okay, this becomes a classic three-man Harbaugh backfield and Singletary gets cut. If he starts slow, you cut him. Perfect move for a team that needed to add to the RB room,” added one fan.

The Giants’ backfield is now one of the more interesting storylines of this preseason.
They won’t likely carry four running backs, and Skattebo is the only running back safe. Harris should have his roster spot locked for now after being recently brought in, leaving Tracy and Singletary to battle it out for the third running back spot. Tracy is likely the favorite to stick around, while Singletary will probably have to find a new home.
New York’s offense is going to have weapons all over the field with this packed running back room, Jaxson Dart, Malik Nabers, and the hyped return of Odell Beckham Jr. to where it all began.
The Giants’ offense will be entertaining and should deliver some fireworks for the fans.
Until Week 1, though, these running backs are going to have to show out because one of them will very likely be somewhere else by Week 1.
